The most noticeable difference is how these devices feel in your hand and pocket. The VMATE i3 is genuinely lighter and smaller – it weighs 49.8g compared to the i2’s 55.5g, and it’s about 10mm shorter (103mm vs 113.7mm).

In daily use, the i3 practically disappears in your pocket. I’ve actually had moments where I had to check if it was still there. The i2, while still very portable, has a bit more presence. Both are aluminum alloy with solid build quality, but the i3’s reduced footprint makes it easier to carry around all day.

Charging Speed

Here’s where the i3 makes a significant jump. Both devices pack the same 1500mAh battery, which is excellent for all-day vaping. But the VOOPOO VMATE i2 charges at 5V/1A, taking about 90 minutes for a full charge. The i3 upgrades to 5V/2A fast charging, cutting that time down to roughly 40 minutes.

This might not sound like a huge deal, but in practice, it changes how you use the device. With the i2, you need to plan your charging around longer breaks. After using both devices extensively, here’s what stands out:

The i2 is a solid, no-frills pod system that gets the job done reliably. Battery life is excellent, the pods are great, and it’s very affordable. The main drawback is the longer charge time, which can be annoying if you forget to plug it in overnight.

The i3 takes the i2’s foundation and refines it. Same great battery capacity, same excellent pods, but in a more compact body with significantly faster charging. It’s the device I find myself reaching for more often simply because it’s so convenient.

Which Should You Buy?

If you can find the VMATE i2 on sale at a significant discount, it’s still a great device. The performance is excellent, and the longer charge time is manageable if that’s not a priority for you.

However, if you’re buying new at similar prices, the VMATE i3 is the better choice. The faster charging alone justifies it, and the smaller size is a bonus. Both devices are beginner-friendly, reliable, and deliver solid flavor.

The i3 is essentially the i2 evolved – same strengths, fewer compromises. VOOPOO took an already good device and made it better in the ways that actually matter for daily use.

What’s Changed

The most noticeable upgrade is the display. The Drag X2’s basic screen has been replaced with a stunning 1.66-inch HD touch screen on the X3. This isn’t just bigger – it’s fully touch-activated, making navigation much more intuitive than the button-based system on the X2.

The battery system has seen a major overhaul. Gone is the old C-Frame battery cover from the X2. The Drag X3 now features a lockable, removable battery housing that accepts both 18650 and 21700 batteries (the X2 only took 18650s). The housing latches securely with magnets, making battery swaps quicker and more satisfying.

What’s Stayed the Same

It’s a professional look that demands attention. However, that gorgeous 2.01″ touchscreen scratches far too easily, even with careful handling. Within weeks, mine accumulated visible marks despite my best efforts to baby it.

The ARGUS P2 takes a simpler approach with its pearlescent zinc alloy and polycarbonate construction. The transparent section revealing the internal chipset is a nice touch for those who appreciate that aesthetic. Build quality is solid overall, though the firing button has an annoying rattle that’s hard to ignore once you notice it.

How You’ll Actually Use Them

Here’s where these devices diverge completely.

The ARGUS P3 operates almost entirely through its ultra-responsive touchscreen. Swipe up to unlock, left to change modes, down for quick settings, right for detailed puff stats. It’s genuinely smartphone-quality in responsiveness, but there’s a learning curve. You’ll spend your first day or two figuring out where everything is. Once you’re past that, daily use becomes natural, but newcomers might feel overwhelmed.

The ARGUS P2 keeps things refreshingly straightforward. No touchscreen navigation to learn—just a button and a small OLED display. You can make it as simple or complex as you need. Stick with Shift mode (SPT/NOR/ECO presets) if you want dead-simple operation, or dive into Power mode if you like adjusting wattage yourself. The raised fill ports mean you can top up without removing the pod, which is genuinely convenient when you’re out and about.

The ARGUS P3 throws everything at you: eighteen unlockable themes, custom DIY power curves with twenty-five adjustable wattage points, incredibly detailed puff tracking with daily/weekly/6-month charts, party mode, SOS mode in Morse code. It’s impressive on paper. In reality, most vapers will pick one theme they like and stick with normal wattage mode. The puff tracking is genuinely useful if you’re monitoring your usage, but features like party mode feel gimmicky.

The ARGUS P2 gives you four user modes split between Power and Shift, and honestly, that’s all most people need. SPT mode maximizes flavor and clouds, NOR balances performance with battery life, and ECO stretches your charge when you need it most. No frills, just practical options.

Battery

The P3’s 1500mAh battery delivers excellent real-world performance. Three full pods (7.5ml) on the 0.7Ω before needing a charge, which could easily last you multiple days depending on your habits. The 2A charging gets you from dead to full in roughly forty minutes. My only gripe is the display doesn’t stay on during charging—you have to tap the button to check progress.

The ARGUS P2’s 1100mAh is noticeably smaller, but the 2A charging partially compensates. You’ll get through a day for most vaping styles, though pushing 30W will drain it faster. ECO mode genuinely helps when you can’t charge immediately.

The Vape Itself

Both deliver outstanding flavor, but the ARGUS P3 edges ahead slightly. Those new ICOSM 2.0 pods produce rich, wet flavor that stays remarkably consistent. After sixteen refills on the 0.7Ω pod, I couldn’t detect any degradation. It genuinely might offer the best flavor I’ve experienced from a pod system.

The ARGUS P2’s vertical mesh coils in the Argus pods also produce excellent flavor that lasts—up to 90ml or 30 days per pod. The difference between them is marginal enough that most vapers wouldn’t complain about either.

For airflow, both shine. The ARGUS P3’s slider is stiff (difficult without nails), but allows precise micro-adjustments. The 0.7Ω pod handles loose to tight MTL perfectly, while the 0.4Ω spans RDL to MTL. The P2 offers similar versatility with its airflow nib, though the adjustment mechanism is less refined.

Who Each Device Actually Suits

Get the ARGUS P3 if you want a feature-rich device and don’t mind spending time learning the interface. It’s genuinely impressive once you’re comfortable with it, and the flavor performance justifies the effort. Just accept that the screen will scratch and the menus take patience.

Get the ARGUS P2 if you value simplicity and don’t need eighteen themes or custom power curves. It’s intuitive from day one, delivers fantastic flavor, and the Shift mode presets make it perfect for both newcomers and veterans who just want to vape without fuss.

Both are excellent pod systems. The P3 is objectively more advanced, but the P2’s straightforward approach has real appeal. Choose based on whether you want complexity with top-tier performance or simplicity with excellent performance.

It runs on a single 21700 battery, though there’s an adapter sleeve included if you’d rather use an 18650. The kit maxes out at 80W, and the standout feature is the touch screen for navigating options and adjusting wattage.

I received the standard 5ml pod, though TPD regions will get the 2ml version.

Design-wise, it follows the familiar pod mod shape—rounded back, flat front. The 1.66″ color touch screen comes with various animations that play when you vape, but you can disable them if they’re not your thing. The fire button sits recessed nicely, making accidental firing unlikely. The USB-C port is at the bottom of the front panel, which works well if you charge it standing up. I still use an external charger out of habit, but modern chip safety means charging via USB is perfectly fine now.

The battery compartment caught me off guard. You press a button on the back and the entire battery section detaches, leaving just the screen and top portion. Don’t make my mistake and try sliding it back on—it clicks into place easily. I spent a few minutes trying to force it before figuring that out.

Feature-wise, it covers the basics. Swipe up on the touch screen to unlock, then swipe down for the menu. There are three modes—eco, smart, and RBA. I stick with RBA since I like experimenting with different wattages. The theme menu offers three options. There’s a puff counter screen where you swipe down to reset your puff count, a lock menu for locking the screen, button, or both, an animation menu where you can turn off the animations, and a time menu for setting the clock that appears on the idle screen.

Testing it out, I started with the pre-installed 0.3Ω coil. It recommends 35W and I stuck with that—the draw was smooth with excellent flavor and solid vapor production for the wattage. The PnP X coils perform well, though they do gurgle slightly if you leave the device sitting for a day or so. Most stock coils do this, so it’s only an issue if you’re leaving it unused for extended periods, which most people don’t.

The 0.15Ω coil suited me better since I’ve been vaping at higher wattages lately. It still performed nicely at 55W, even though it suggests 70W as optimal. At 70W, the flavor was fantastic and vapor production was heavy, but it ran too warm for my taste. I prefer a cooler vape, so I settled around 60W most of the time, trading some flavor for that cooler hit I like.

Once you’ve dialed in your settings, that’s essentially it for this kit. You can tweak wattage in RBA mode, but aside from disabling animations and setting the clock, there isn’t much else to fiddle with. That simplicity is exactly what this type of kit is meant for.

Final Thoughts

VOOPOO has been focusing on straightforward, effective kits for the past few years, and the Drag X3 is another solid execution. Once set up, you just refill the pod occasionally and swap the coil when it’s spent. The coils lasted me about a week before flavor started dropping off and they needed replacing. Keep in mind I don’t use heavily sweetened juice, which will impact coil life.

The touch screen is responsive and works smoothly. It’s good to see this feature on something outside the more premium pod kits. My only real gripe is something VOOPOO has always done—if you let the device sleep and then wake it up, the first fire button press does nothing. It just wakes the device. This bugs me because I’m used to drawing immediately when I press the button. It does take a while to fall asleep though, maybe five or ten minutes. Still irritating.

Today I’m reviewing the Drag X2 Kit, one of two new Drag releases from VOOPOO. The other kit review is coming soon. The Drag X2 runs on a single replaceable 18650 battery and offers 3 power modes with a maximum output of 80W. This kit introduces a new pod that’s completely leak-free thanks to top airflow, along with new PnP coils. What sets this kit apart? Let’s find out.

First Impressions

The packaging uses a box-in-sleeve design. The VOOPOO Drag X2 and tank sit on top, with a white rectangular box underneath containing the user manual, charge cable, and second coil (0.3Ω Mesh). I received the Silver color, which has a pearlescent finish that shifts between colors. The body is wrapped in leather with two rows of stitching flanking the spine, which has its own design element that makes the device really stand out.

The Drag X2 uses the same pod connection as previous models, 4 magnets hold it in place. The connection is strong, though carrying it in a pocket might pull the tank off. VOOPOO puts a sticker across the bottom of the installed coil for safety, so remember to remove it.

Filling the pod uses the standard side-fill rubber plug method. I’m not a fan of this—I wish they’d gone with top-fill instead. The fill port is large enough to prevent messy refills though.

VOOPOO is introducing a new top airflow pod with this kit, making it genuinely leak-free. There’s one potential downside, the drip tip is fixed and can’t be swapped for your own. In the time I’ve used it, I had no comfort issues and it looks good too.

The device itself looks fantastic. Like a pearl catches light and throws colors, the Silver Drag X2 does the same. The biggest selling point for me is the C-Frame design, which happens to be my favorite style.

The cover fits extremely tight with no chance of coming loose. On my unit there’s zero play in the cover. VOOPOO rounded all the edges on the X2 for comfortable hand feel.

The front features a large, easy-to-read display with wattage shown in very large font. All other information uses perfectly sized fonts, no squinting needed. Information is laid out in a clean grid style, and you get both battery percentage and a battery bar.

The menu system is simple to operate using just a couple button combinations.
