Asus ROG 7 Pro: The Beastly Gaming Laptop You’ve Been Waiting For

The second-generation Snapdragon 8 wholly eliminated the previous “Fire Dragon” title due to its significantly improved energy efficiency ratio and regained its reputation. Both consumers and manufacturers have received rave reviews.

However, if you want a full-frame gaming experience, there are so many second-generation Snapdragon 8 phones on the market; how to choose is also a tangled issue for gamers. Regarding heat dissipation, ROG 7 Pro also brings matrix liquid cooling architecture 7.0. The intermediary layer between the motherboard and the RF board is filled with 3300mg of cooling material. The thermal conductivity is 200 times that of air, which can reduce the temperature of the CPU. The temperature is about 10 degrees Celsius, coupled with the restructured VC and reshaped graphene, which improves the heat dissipation efficiency and allows ROG 7 Pro to maintain a more comfortable temperature during long-term gaming.

Pairing it with the Cooler Fan 7 that comes with it is even more powerful, ensuring that the performance of the ROG 7 Pro can be fully utilized. The screen uses a 6.78-inch 165Hz high-brush AMOLED straight screen with a DCI-P3 color gamut of 111.23%, a resolution of 2448*1080, and supports a 165Hz refresh rate, and a 720Hz touch sampling rate. Compared with the previous generation, the peak brightness of this screen has increased to 1500nits, ensuring that users can watch even in the sun and turn on the black at any time.

Design & Screen

The Tencent ROG gaming phone 7 Pro we received is very distinctive on the packaging box, which draws on the design elements of spaceships and presents a sci-fi feel. The mobile phone body, phone case, charger, cooling fan seven, and other equipment are included in the package. The front of the ROG 7 Pro mobile phone adopts a symmetrical design. In terms of design, the ROG 7 series adopts a beveled style and a two-color design concept, which can better demonstrate ROG’s hard-core and eclectic image. The rear camera module of the ROG 7 Pro is a three-camera solution consisting of a 50-megapixel primary camera + a 13-megapixel 120-degree ultra-wide-angle camera + a 5-megapixel macro camera. The details of ROG 7 Pro’s cooling air valve area and the cooling fan seven can blow cold air to the cooling fins, efficiently dissipating heat from the CPU.

The classic ROG Vision personality window is also preserved. 2. GeekBench 5

In GeekBench 5, the second-generation Snapdragon 8 equipped with Asus ROG 7 Pro scored 1460 in a single thread and 5018 in multithreading.

Also, compared with the previous generation, the first generation of Snapdragon 8+, the single-core has increased by 18.8%, and the multi-core has increased by 25.4%.

3. GeekBench 6

In GeekBench 6, the single-thread score is 2016, and the multi-thread score is 5715. In the entire Android camp, this result also belongs to the first echelon of performance.

4. GFXBench

Using GFXbench to test GPU performance, in the six graphics projects of Aztec ruins OpenGL, Aztec ruins Vulkan, racing chase, Manhattan 3.1, Manhattan, and Tyrannosaurus rex, compared with the previous generation of the first generation of Snapdragon 8+, they are respectively improved. 70.3%, 83.7%, 64.9%, 47%, 34.7%, graphics performance improvement is very obvious.

5. AndroBench

In the AndroBench test, ROG 7 Pro achieved a sequential reading of 3432MB/s, writing of 3054MB/s, 4K reading of 463MB/s, and writing of 595MB/s, which belonged to UFS 4.0 flash memory.

Compared with the previous generation ROG 6 Pro, the sequential sketching is almost doubled, and the 4K reading and writing have been improved to a certain extent.

Gaming Performance

In the gaming experience, the AirTrigger function of ROG 7 Pro can provide a variety of control methods, which can be controlled through ultrasonic shoulder keys, somatosensory controls, and fan buttons. The AirTrigger function also supports use outside the game. In portrait mode, you can press the shoulder button to perform everyday operations such as flashlight, screenshot, and open the App. In this round of game testing, we turned on the X mode of Asus ROG 7 Pro and used it with Cooler Fan 7 to examine the game’s stability and performance release performance.

1. QQ Speed

In “QQ Speed,” we turned on ultra-high-definition image quality, selected ultra-high-definition resolution,, and selected high frame rates inside and outside the game. The average frame rate of “QQ Speed” in the game is 165.5 FPS, which belongs to the full frame level, and the whole is as stable as a straight line. Because the load requirements of “QQ Speed” are not high, the body temperature of ROG 7 Pro is only 33 degrees Celsius (the floating window in the middle of the bottom of the game screen).

2. Battle of the Golden Shovel

In the picture quality setting of “Battle of the Golden Shovel,” the frame rate is selected to be up to 165, the resolution is chosen to be high-definition, and the picture quality is selected to be perfect. After a 23-minute multiplayer battle in “Battle of the Golden Shovel,” the overall frame rate was relatively stable, with an average frame rate of 164.4 FPS and a body temperature of 42 degrees Celsius.

3. Original God

In the hardware killer “Original God,” we changed the picture quality to extremely high; on this basis, we changed the frame rate to 60 frames. During the game, we will fight monsters and run map tests in multiple scenes, such as Sumeru and Inazuma,

In the first 15 minutes of the Xumi scene test, even in areas with high load, the frame rate fluctuation of the game curve is not too noticeable, and the overall is within the baseline of 60 FPS, and there is no frame drop problem. In the last 15 minutes of testing in the rice wife scene, the number of fluctuations appeared less. During the “Original God” game, the average frame rate was 60 FPS. Half an hour later, the temperature of the ROG 7 Pro body reached a maximum of 37 degrees Celsius. We found an infrared thermometer to prove the actual temperature of ROG 7 Pro.

After playing “Yuan Shen” with Asus ROG 7 Pro and Cooler Fan 7 for half an hour, this is the temperature data. The hottest area is in the middle of the fuselage, only 36.6 degrees Celsius. This result is almost the same as the standby temperature of the mobile phone. Quite.

Such a result is consistent with the temperature monitored in real-time by the system, and a lower temperature can bring a more stable and smoother gaming experience to ROG 7 Pro.

Cameras

Although Asus ROG 7 Pro mainly focuses on e-sports gaming phones, it has also reached the mainstream level regarding image configuration. The rear camera provides a triple camera of 50 Megapixels Sony IMX766 primary camera + 13 Megapixels 120° ultra-wide-angle lens + 5 Megapixels macro lens combination.

Main camera

In the daytime proofs, the color control of the Asus ROG 7 Pro is relatively restrained, and it is more inclined to accurate records, avoiding the “German taste” caused by excessive saturation, and it is no problem to meet the daily photo needs of gamers.

In an indoor environment where the indoor light is insufficient, more details can be recorded, and the relationship between light and shade can also be correctly preserved. When shooting night scenes, ROG 7 Pro is also very good at controlling the light in the face of complex lighting, but it is a pity that it is limited by the amount of light entering the CMOS. In such scenes, the output speed is a little slower. Wait for a second or two when you release the shutter. Otherwise, it will be easy to blur.

Ultra Wide Angle

The ultra-wide-angle lens of Asus ROG 7 Pro supports a 120° ultra-wide viewing angle, which can meet the needs of users who want to record expansive scenery and magnificent buildings.

Judging from the color performance of the shooting proofs, the ultra-wide-angle lens is very close to the primary camera in terms of tuning style.

Battery

Regarding battery charging, Asus ROG 7 Pro also maintains a large capacity of 6000 mAh and supports 65W fast charging. This generation uses MMT battery technology and a two-wire split battery design to combine charging speed and temperature/safety without sacrificing 6000mAh capacity.

Among them, the MTT technology increases the energy density while reducing the impedance and the temperature during the charging process, ensuring that the ROG 7 Pro can maintain a faster charging speed during the period.

Charge

The 65W fast charging of ROG 7 Pro can charge the 6000mAh battery to 49% in 15 minutes and 80% in 30 minutes. It takes a total of 42 minutes to charge to whole blood.

Battery life

For the battery life, we use a professional battery life test tool – the battery dog produced by Kuai Technology.

In terms of test items, we chose the limit battery life test and checked all the test items, including CPU high voltage, CPU multithreading, AI recognition, picture browsing, video playback, and web browsing, to simulate user usage scenarios and restore the whole load to the greatest extent. Infinitely close to the actual power consumption.

For the endurance performance of Asus ROG 7 Pro, we tested the version of balanced and ultra-long endurance modes, respectively.

In balanced mode, we changed the ROG 7 Pro’s screen brightness to 50%, refresh rate to auto, and auto brightness off.

It took 11 hours and 42 minutes for the power to be consumed from 100% to 2%. This battery life performance is about one and a half hours longer than the mobile phone equipped with the second-generation Snapdragon 8+ but only has a 5000mAh battery.

In ultra-long battery life mode, ROG 7 Pro will automatically set the refresh rate to 60Hz while reducing touch sensitivity, CPU/GPU/RAM and temperature control, etc., to save mobile phone power as much as possible.

Manually change the screen brightness to 50% and turn off auto brightness.

Asus takes 15 hours and 02 minutes for the battery to be consumed from 100% to 2%. Compared with the normal mode, the battery life is 3 hours long. This performance allows users to use it for two days without interruption, and playing games for a day is not a big problem.

Verdict

From the experience of the Asus ROG 7 Pro, performance, temperature, battery life, and other aspects have improved significantly compared to the previous generation.

1. The second-generation Snapdragon 8+ brings an excellent gaming experience

The second-generation Snapdragon 8+ is the flagship chip at the moment. Compared with the previous generation, whether CPU or GPU, the improvement is very obvious. A more robust performance can ensure that the game can reach the limit.

After turning on the X mode in several games we tested, games such as “Yuanshin God” and “Golden Shovel War” can reach full frames. It can be said that all games on the market can take all.

2. Cooperate with Cooler Fan 7 to lower the temperature to ensure the stable performance of the game

For the flagship core, the unavoidable problem is heat generation. The stronger the performance release, the greater the heat generation. Many mobile phones will perform frequency reduction processing out of temperature control considerations. Currently, there is no guarantee that the game will be entirely played.

However, after Asus ROG 7 Pro is equipped with Cooler Fan 7, the improvement in temperature experience is pronounced. Take the hardware killer “Yuanshin” as an example. After using Cooler Fan 7, the temperature of ROG 7 Pro remains the same after half an hour. At 36.6 degrees Celsius, the lower temperature can ensure the stable performance of the game, and the game will not miss the opportunity due to frequency reduction.

Of course, games such as “QQ Speed” and “Glory of the King” that do not require a high load, even without a fan, can guarantee stable performance for a long time.

3. The 6000mAh battery can last up to 15 hours

What surprised me even more was the battery life. The 6000mAh battery can achieve about 12 hours of battery life in normal mode.

If you are more concerned about battery life, it is recommended to turn on the ultra-long battery life mode, which can quickly bring 15 hours of battery life and efficiently meet the needs of users who go out for two days.

This kind of performance is relatively rare in the Android camp. It should be considered that ROG 7 Pro is positioned as a gaming phone, and battery life is not its main selling point.

Instructions to Install

1. First Download & Install a Custom Recovery on your device (TWRP is recommended) If you already have installed then skip this step.

2. Download ROM & Gapps .zip file and save it on your device’s Internal storage or SD Card.

3. Now Boot your device into TWRP Recovery Mode. (if you don’t know how to boot your device into twrp recovery then you can search it on Google)

4. Now in TWRP create a Nandroid Backup of your device for safer side. If anything goes wrong, you can restore back to your older ROM. (How to Take Nandroid Backup)

5. Now do a Factory Reset of your device, Goto Wipe > Advanced Wipe > Select Cache, Dalvik Cache, System, and Data. Then Swipe to Wipe.

6. Now go back to TWRP Main Menu by pressing the Center navigation button.

7. Now Select Install, Locate the ROM zip file and Swipe to Confirm Flash.

8. After the flashing completes, Flash the Gapps in the manner.

9. After Gapps flashing completes, Select Wipe cache/dalvik from the bottom left side of the screen, & Swipe to Wipe.

10. After wipe completes, Click on Reboot System.

That’s it Now you have successfully installed Latest android on your device, first boot will take some time so please don’t panic!
