Perhaps one of the most impressive updates is that the external screen now supports nearly all apps and games. Gaming Performance

Running heavy games on a foldable phone is always a real test of both performance and thermal design. The Honor Magic V Flip2 comes armed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which sets the tone for flagship-level speed. Alongside that, Honor adds its in-house energy-efficient E2 chip, designed to keep heat under control. The unit I tested packs 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, so it’s built to handle demanding apps with ease.

For testing, I played two popular but very different titles: Honor of Kings and Genshin Impact. The room temperature during the tests was a steady 26°C, with performance mode switched on.

Honor of Kings

On this device, the game supports 120FPS in HD mode and 90FPS on extreme settings. For my test, I went with the extreme 90FPS option. Over a 15-minute match, the phone delivered an average of 85.9FPS, though around the 10-minute mark, it automatically capped the output at 80FPS.

Power draw came in at 3.1W, with an average energy cost of about 37.2mW per frame. The rear panel temperature reached 39°C—warm but far from uncomfortable. For a competitive game like this, the performance was more than smooth enough to stay locked into the action.

Genshin Impact

This game is far more demanding, so I pushed it with max graphics settings and ran around Sumeru City for 15 minutes. Instead of hard-locking the framerate, the system gradually lowered it to about 45FPS, making the drop feel less jarring while keeping the gameplay fluid.

Here, the average power draw was higher at 4W, and per-frame energy use climbed to 81mW. The real challenge, though, was the heat—temperatures rose to 42°C, which made the device noticeably hot to hold.

Cameras

The Honor Magic V Flip 2 takes a big step forward in the camera department this year. While it still carries a dual-camera setup, the main sensor has received a serious upgrade — now packing a 200MP, 1/1.4-inch sensor with an f/1.9 wide aperture. It supports both OIS and EIS stabilization, comes with 16-in-1 pixel binning that produces 2.24µm equivalent large pixels, and even offers up to 30X AIGC zoom.

The secondary lens isn’t left behind either. It now features a 50MP sensor with a 120° ultra-wide-angle view and doubles as a macro lens with a super-short 2.5cm focusing distance.

When putting the Honor Magic V Flip 2 to the test, the main camera really stood out. Thanks to the massive 200MP resolution, daytime shots were rich in detail — some images exceeded 50MB in size. Even tiny text far away remained sharp after zooming in. In its default mode, the sensor uses 16-in-1 binning to produce 12.5MP shots that pop with vibrant colors, making them instantly shareable on platforms like WeChat or Xiaohongshu. Zooming into faraway buildings gives you that cinematic, dramatic effect you’d expect from a flagship camera.

Low-light performance is equally impressive. In Night Scene mode, the camera handles highlights well, keeps noise under control, and captures subtle details in darker areas without washing them out — perfect for preserving the atmosphere of a city at night.

Ultra-Wide & Macro

The upgraded ultra-wide + macro combo lens feels versatile and fun. It’s wide enough to capture the grandeur of tall buildings, yet capable of zooming in on tiny textures and details you might normally overlook, thanks to its close focusing ability.

Portraits

One of the biggest perks of a flip phone is being able to use the rear cameras for selfies. With the Magic V Flip2’s advanced lenses, portraits come out sharp and natural, with well-balanced lighting, smooth background blur, and beautiful layering in highlights and shadows.

Battery Performance

Honor’s continuous improvements in its Qinghai Lake battery technology are paying off in the Magic V Flip 2. By incorporating silicon–carbon anodes, the battery’s silicon density has now reached 15%—a solid 7.8% increase over the previous generation. Thanks to this upgrade, the phone carries a 5500mAh battery, the largest capacity you’ll currently find in any small foldable device.

Alongside the impressive size, it also supports 80W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging, giving users the flexibility to power up quickly, whether at home or on the go.

To see how this translates into real-world performance, we put the Magic V Flip 2 through detailed battery endurance and charging tests.

Battery Life Test

For consistency, we used Battery Dog (developed by Fast Technology) to simulate real-world usage as closely as possible. Every setting was standardized—screen brightness fixed at 50%, auto-brightness disabled, and volume set at 30%—to keep the results accurate.

It’s worth noting that foldable phones are a little different from regular devices since users don’t constantly rely on the inner display. Because of this, lab results may differ slightly from everyday usage.

In our test, the Magic V Flip 2 lasted 10 hours, 46 minutes, and 19 seconds when drained from 100% down to 20%. Projecting that figure forward, the total endurance comes in at around 13 hours and 27 minutes. That puts it at the top of its class among compact foldables, comfortably delivering a full day of use—especially when paired with its efficient small-screen power-saving mode.

Charging Test

For charging, we unfolded the inner display, enabled super-fast charging mode, and measured the time taken from 1% battery. The results were impressive:

• 10 minutes → 24%
• 20 minutes → 49%
• 30 minutes → 74%
• 47 minutes → 100%

Verdict

After putting the Honor Magic V Flip2 through a series of tests, it’s clear that Honor has taken big steps forward compared to its previous generation. The focus this time has been on refining the camera system, boosting battery capacity, enhancing external screen functions, and improving the overall build and feel of the device.

The first thing that stands out is the upgraded camera setup. Honor has managed to equip the Flip2 with the only 200MP main camera in the compact foldable category, paired with a 50MP ultra-wide lens. This is a massive leap from the earlier version and puts it on par with traditional flagship bar-style phones. Thanks to its foldable form, the main camera also doubles as one of the best selfie shooters you can get today.

Next is endurance. The Honor Magic V Flip 2 packs the largest battery in its class at 5500mAh, delivering an impressive runtime of over 13 hours on a full charge. To top it off, the 80W fast charging support ensures you’re never left waiting long, making it one of the strongest contenders in the foldable lineup when it comes to power and charging.

Honor has also put serious effort into making the external screen more versatile. From interactive animations and virtual pets to customizable lock screens, AI features, and app support, the cover display is no longer just a decorative add-on. Instead, it introduces a fresh way of interacting with the phone without always flipping it open—helping to shake off the old perception of compact foldables as “pretty but impractical.”

Durability is another area where Honor has stepped up.
