Huawei Mate 90 Series Leak Suggests Flat Displays, In-House 200MP Camera, and Massive 7,000mAh Battery

Huawei is widely expected to unveil its next-generation Mate 90 series in September 2026, and new leaks are shedding light on what could be the company’s most ambitious flagship lineup to date. In addition to the anticipated next-generation Kirin 2026 chipset, the latest reports point to significant upgrades in display design, camera technology, biometric security, and battery life.

While Huawei has yet to officially confirm these details, the leaked information suggests the Mate 90 series could introduce several major changes compared to previous Mate smartphones.

    Flat Displays Replace Curved Screens

According to the latest leak from a well-known Chinese technology tipster, Huawei will abandon the curved display design that has defined recent Mate flagships.

Instead, the entire Mate 90 series is reportedly moving to large flat displays, offering a more practical user experience with reduced accidental touches and a larger usable viewing area. The shift also aligns with a broader industry trend, as many smartphone manufacturers have returned to flat panels for improved usability and durability.

New Camera Design for Premium Models

Huawei is also expected to refresh the appearance of its premium models.

The Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design and the rumored Mate XT2 foldable are said to replace Huawei’s signature circular camera module with a square-shaped camera island. The redesigned layout reportedly combines circular lens elements within a square housing, creating a fresh visual identity that distinguishes the new generation from its predecessors.

    Advanced Biometric Security

The Mate 90 series is rumored to introduce several notable upgrades to biometric authentication.

All models are expected to feature 3D ultrasonic fingerprint recognition integrated into the side-mounted power button. Compared with traditional capacitive fingerprint sensors, the new solution is expected to deliver faster unlocking speeds, higher recognition accuracy, and more reliable performance even with wet fingers.

Perhaps even more significantly, the Mate 90 lineup could become Huawei’s first smartphone series to feature an under-display 3D structured light facial recognition system.

If implemented, this technology would allow secure facial authentication while preserving a seamless full-screen design, representing a major advancement in Huawei’s biometric technology. It could also enhance the security of mobile payments and device unlocking compared to conventional under-display solutions.

Larger Battery with 100W Fast Charging

Battery life is another area expected to receive a substantial boost.

According to the leak, every model in the Mate 90 series will feature a battery with a capacity of more than 7,000mAh, making it one of the largest batteries ever offered in a Huawei flagship smartphone.

The devices are also expected to support 100W wired fast charging, allowing users to quickly recharge the large battery while benefiting from significantly improved endurance for gaming, productivity, and multimedia consumption.

    Self-Developed 200MP Camera Expected on High-End Models

Photography is likely to remain one of the Mate series’ biggest strengths.

The Mate 90 Max and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design are rumored to feature Huawei’s self-developed 200-megapixel primary camera, paired with a large 1/1.12-inch image sensor.

If accurate, this would represent one of Huawei’s most advanced camera systems to date, promising improvements in:

    • Detail and image resolution
    • Low-light photography
    • Dynamic range
    • Computational imaging performance

Huawei has consistently invested in its in-house imaging technologies, and a proprietary 200MP sensor could further strengthen the company’s position in premium smartphone photography.

    Kirin 2026 Chipset Expected

Although the latest leak focuses primarily on hardware design and imaging, previous reports suggest the Mate 90 series will debut Huawei’s next-generation Kirin 2026 processor.

The new chipset is expected to deliver improvements in CPU and GPU performance, AI processing, and power efficiency, helping the Mate 90 series compete more effectively in the flagship smartphone market.

    Final Thoughts

Based on current leaks, the Huawei Mate 90 series appears to be shaping up as one of Huawei’s most significant flagship upgrades in recent years. The reported transition to flat displays, a redesigned camera module, 7,000mAh+ batteries, 100W fast charging, advanced biometric technologies, and a self-developed 200MP camera suggest Huawei is focusing on meaningful improvements across design, performance, security, and photography.

As with all pre-release information, these details should be treated as rumors until Huawei makes an official announcement. With the expected launch just a few months away, more concrete information about the Mate 90 series is likely to emerge in the weeks leading up to its anticipated September debut.
