When testing a game, troubleshooting lag, or checking how demanding an app is on your Xiaomi phone, real-time performance information can help you understand what is happening behind the screen. A performance monitor may display CPU activity, frame-rate information, or other system statistics without requiring you to leave the app you are using.

However, Xiaomi phones do not all provide the same monitoring tools. The available options depend on the phone model, MIUI or HyperOS version, and whether you want a built-in system indicator or a movable third-party floating window.

This guide explains how to find the relevant settings, enable performance information, and adjust the window’s position when the monitoring tool supports it.

1. Check Which Performance Monitor Your Phone Supports

Before changing any settings, decide what information you want to see.

CPU usage: Helps you identify when the processor is under heavy load.

Frame rate (FPS): Useful for checking gaming smoothness and performance changes.

Screen refresh rate: Shows the display’s refresh-rate setting or current refresh rate, depending on the feature.

Memory and network activity: May require a separate monitoring application if your system does not provide these details in a built-in overlay.

These indicators measure different things. For example, a display running at 120Hz does not necessarily mean a game is rendering 120 frames per second.

2. Enable Developer Options on Your Xiaomi Phone

Some built-in performance and debugging indicators are available through Developer options. If you have not enabled this menu before, follow these steps.

Open Settings on your Xiaomi phone.

Tap About phone.

Find the MIUI or OS version entry. Depending on your device, you may need to open Detailed info and specs or a similarly named page.

Tap the version entry repeatedly until the phone confirms that developer mode has been enabled. On many Xiaomi devices, this requires seven taps.

Return to Settings and open Additional settings or the corresponding system settings page.

Select Developer options.

You may need to enter your screen-lock password or PIN to confirm certain actions.

The exact labels can differ between MIUI and HyperOS releases. If you cannot find the version entry or Developer options, use the Settings search bar to look for the relevant menu.

If you want to explore more hidden system settings, read our guide to Xiaomi phone settings and useful features to discover more ways to customize your device.

3. Look for the Built-In CPU Usage Indicator

If you only need a quick view of processor activity, check whether your phone provides a CPU usage indicator.

Open Settings.

Enter Additional settings and then Developer options, if available.

Scroll through the available options.

Look for Show CPU usage or a similarly named indicator.

Turn it on if your phone offers the setting.

On Android versions that include this feature, enabling it can display CPU activity as a small on-screen overlay. It is useful when comparing how different apps affect processor load.

Keep in mind that this indicator is not a complete performance dashboard. It may not show memory usage, temperatures, battery health, or gaming FPS.

Important: The built-in CPU indicator may have a fixed position and may not support dragging or repositioning. If your goal is to move the monitoring window to another corner of the screen, check whether your particular system tool offers a position setting before assuming that the indicator can be moved.

4. Adjust the Position of a Floating Performance Window

If you are using a monitoring application that supports a movable floating window, you may be able to place it where it is easiest to read.

Allow the application to display over other apps

First, check the application’s permissions.

Open Settings and go to Apps or App management.

Select the monitoring application.

Open its permissions or special permissions page.

Look for Display over other apps, Show pop-up windows, or a similarly named option.

Allow the permission if the application requires it and you trust the app.

Some Xiaomi system versions place this permission under a special permissions menu. The exact path varies, so searching Settings for “display over other apps” can be faster than navigating through every submenu.

Move the window to a suitable location

Once the floating window is enabled:

Open the monitoring application and activate its overlay.

Return to the screen where you want to monitor performance.

Press and hold the floating panel or its designated drag handle.

Move it to an area that does not cover important buttons, subtitles, or game controls.

Release it and check whether the new position is retained.

Not every app uses the same gesture. Some require you to open a floating-window settings page and enable a movable-window option first. Others may only allow you to choose from preset positions.

If the panel does not move, consult the application’s own settings rather than repeatedly changing unrelated Android permissions.

5. What to Do If the Performance Monitor Does Not Appear

A missing or invisible monitoring window does not necessarily indicate a system fault. Check the following possibilities.

The feature is unavailable on your software version. Xiaomi changes settings and developer tools across devices and system releases. Search for terms such as “CPU usage,” “frame rate,” “performance,” or “monitor” in Settings.

The overlay permission is disabled. A third-party monitoring tool may run normally while being prevented from drawing over other apps. Check its special permissions.

The app’s monitoring service has stopped. Reopen the app and confirm that monitoring is enabled. If the application provides Start and Stop controls, verify that monitoring is actually running.

The window is hidden behind another interface. Return to the home screen or close full-screen menus to see whether the overlay becomes visible.

Battery restrictions are interrupting the app. If the window disappears after some time, check the application’s battery and background-running settings. Change restrictions only when necessary, because allowing persistent background activity may increase battery consumption.

The system uses a different feature name. A refresh-rate indicator, CPU usage display, gaming FPS tool, and third-party resource monitor are not interchangeable. Make sure you are looking for the correct feature.

If your Xiaomi phone feels slow or drains its battery while running background processes, our guide on how to fix excessive system battery consumption on the Redmi Note 13 can help you investigate system activity and identify possible causes.

6. Choose the Right Tool for Gaming or Troubleshooting

The best monitoring method depends on what you are trying to diagnose.

Your goal

What to look for

Check processor load

Built-in CPU usage indicator, if available

Evaluate gaming smoothness

An FPS monitor or supported gaming overlay

See the display refresh rate

A refresh-rate indicator

Track memory or network activity

A monitoring tool that explicitly supports those metrics

Move the panel away from controls

A floating-window tool with drag or position settings

For gaming tests, compare performance under similar conditions. Keep the game settings, graphics quality, and test scene consistent. A single CPU or FPS reading is less useful than observing how the numbers change during the same workload.

Avoid installing several monitoring applications at once. Multiple overlays can obscure the screen, consume additional resources, and make troubleshooting more complicated.

7. Does Enabling Performance Monitoring Affect Battery Life?

A simple system indicator usually has less overhead than a detailed monitoring app that continuously records several metrics. Nevertheless, the impact depends on how frequently the tool samples data and whether it draws graphs or runs background services.

If you only need to investigate a temporary slowdown, enable monitoring for the test and turn it off afterward. This keeps the display uncluttered and reduces unnecessary background activity.

Do not confuse a performance monitor with a performance mode. A monitor reports information; a performance mode changes how the phone manages resources. Turning on a monitoring overlay does not automatically make games run faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I move the built-in Xiaomi CPU usage window?

Not necessarily. The built-in indicator may use a fixed position. If there is no drag gesture or position option, you may need a compatible monitoring application that supports movable overlays.

Do I need to root my Xiaomi phone?

Usually, no. Enabling Developer options and using a supported overlay generally do not require root access. Some advanced diagnostic features may have additional requirements, but rooting is not a sensible first step for simply displaying performance information.

Why can I see CPU usage but not FPS?

CPU usage and FPS are separate measurements. A CPU indicator does not automatically measure rendered frames. Look for a supported FPS-monitoring feature or a compatible gaming tool.

Will the same instructions work on MIUI and HyperOS?

The general approach is similar, but menu names and available options can vary. Follow the labels shown on your own device rather than relying on a menu path from another Xiaomi model.

Final Thoughts

Enabling a performance monitor on a Xiaomi phone starts with identifying the information you need. Developer options may provide a basic CPU indicator, while gaming tools or compatible third-party applications may offer FPS readings and movable floating windows.

If the monitoring window appears but cannot be repositioned, first confirm whether the feature supports dragging. The built-in CPU indicator and a third-party floating panel may look similar, but their controls and capabilities can be quite different.

For the most accurate instructions, identify your phone model and software version before changing advanced settings. This helps you find the right monitoring feature without installing unnecessary apps or altering unrelated system options.

As we use our smartphones daily, they gradually accumulate temporary files, cached data, installation packages, duplicate downloads, and other unnecessary files that consume valuable storage space. Over time, these junk files can slow down performance, reduce available storage, and affect the overall user experience.

Fortunately, Redmi Note series smartphones come with several built-in tools that make cleaning up junk files quick and easy. Whether you’re using a Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 13, Redmi Note 14, or an earlier model running MIUI or HyperOS, this guide will help you free up storage and keep your device running smoothly.

Understanding the available HyperOS features and settings can also help you manage apps, review storage usage and keep your phone running smoothly.

Why Junk Files Accumulate on Redmi Phones

Junk files are created during normal smartphone usage. Common sources include:

App cache files

Temporary system files

Installation APK packages

Social media downloads

Duplicate photos and videos

Browser cache

WhatsApp media files

Unused app data

Residual files from uninstalled applications

While these files are often necessary temporarily, they can accumulate over time and occupy several gigabytes of storage.

Method 1: Use the Built-in Security App Cleaner

The easiest and safest way to remove junk files on Redmi Note devices is through the built-in Security app.

Steps:

Open the Security app.

Tap Cleaner.

Allow the system to scan your device.

Review the detected junk files.

Tap Clean Up.

The Security app can remove:

Cache files

Obsolete installation packages

Temporary files

Memory residue

System-generated junk

This method is recommended because it is officially integrated into MIUI and HyperOS.

Method 2: Clear App Cache

Individual apps often store large amounts of cache data.

To Clear Cache:

Open Settings.

Select Apps.

Tap Manage Apps.

Choose an app.

Tap Storage.

Select Clear Cache.

Apps that commonly accumulate large caches include:

YouTube

TikTok

Instagram

Facebook

Chrome

Spotify

Netflix

Clearing cache typically does not delete personal data or account information.

Method 3: Remove Unused Applications

Many users install apps they rarely use.

To Uninstall Apps:

Open Settings.

Go to Apps.

Select Manage Apps.

Review installed applications.

Uninstall apps you no longer need.

Removing unused apps can free significant storage space and reduce background resource consumption.

Method 4: Clean WhatsApp Storage

WhatsApp is often one of the largest storage consumers on Redmi phones.

To Manage WhatsApp Storage:

Open WhatsApp.

Tap Settings.

Select Storage and Data.

Tap Manage Storage.

Review large files and forwarded media.

Delete unnecessary items.

Many users discover several gigabytes of old videos and photos stored within WhatsApp.

Method 5: Delete Downloaded Files

The Downloads folder often contains forgotten files.

Steps:

Open the File Manager app.

Navigate to Downloads.

Sort files by size.

Delete unwanted files, APKs, PDFs, and duplicate downloads.

Old installation packages can consume hundreds of megabytes without users realizing it.

Method 6: Remove Duplicate Photos and Videos

Photos and videos usually occupy the largest amount of storage.

Use Gallery Cleanup Tools:

Open Gallery.

Tap Albums.

Look for:

Duplicate photos

Similar photos

Screenshots

Large videos

Delete unnecessary items.

Regular photo maintenance can dramatically increase available storage.

Method 7: Clear Browser Data

Web browsers store temporary files and website data.

Chrome:

Open Chrome.

Tap the three-dot menu.

Select History.

Tap Clear Browsing Data.

Choose Cached Images and Files.

Confirm deletion.

This can recover a surprising amount of storage over time.

Method 8: Use Deep Clean Features

Many newer Redmi Note models running HyperOS include enhanced cleaning tools.

Access Deep Clean:

Open Security.

Select Deep Clean.

Review:

Large files

Duplicate files

Unused apps

Rarely used files

Delete unnecessary content.

Deep Clean provides more detailed storage analysis than the standard Cleaner tool.

Method 9: Transfer Files to Cloud Storage

If your device is running low on storage, consider moving files to cloud services such as:

Google Drive

Google Photos

Dropbox

OneDrive

Cloud storage helps free local storage while keeping files accessible.

Method 10: Restart Your Device Regularly

Many users overlook the benefits of restarting their phones.

Restarting:

Clears temporary memory

Closes background processes

Refreshes system resources

Improves overall responsiveness

A simple restart once every few days can help maintain smooth performance.

Tips to Prevent Future Storage Problems

To keep your Redmi Note running efficiently:

Clean junk files weekly

Uninstall unused apps regularly

Enable cloud backup for photos

Avoid downloading unnecessary files

Clear app caches monthly

Monitor storage usage through Settings

Regular maintenance prevents storage issues before they become noticeable.

If your Redmi phone is still running slowly after you remove unnecessary files, check our guide to Redmi phone performance problems for more troubleshooting tips.

Xiaomi smartphones come with a useful privacy feature called Second Space, which allows users to create a separate environment on the same device. Similar to having two phones in one, Second Space provides an independent space for apps, files, photos, accounts, and settings without affecting the main system.

Whether you want to separate work and personal data, create a private area for sensitive files, or share your phone while keeping your information protected, Xiaomi’s Second Space feature offers a convenient solution.

This guide explains how to enable Second Space on a Xiaomi phone and how to hide it for better privacy.

What Is Xiaomi Second Space?

Second Space is a built-in feature in Xiaomi’s MIUI and HyperOS systems that creates a separate user environment on your smartphone.

Each space works independently and can have its own:

Apps

Photos and videos

Files

Contacts

Accounts

Wallpapers

Home screen layout

App settings

Password protection

For example, you can use:

First Space for personal apps and private information

Second Space for work apps, guest access, or hidden content

Switching between the two spaces feels like using two different smartphones.

Requirements Before Enabling Second Space

According to information shared by a well-known Chinese tech blogger, the upcoming release focuses on a complete reconstruction of the system’s underlying architecture rather than incremental feature additions.

A Fresh Start Beyond MIUI

The biggest highlight of HyperOS 4 is said to be its “zero legacy” architecture.

According to previous leaks, Xiaomi’s software engineers have completely removed outdated code and legacy software development kits (SDKs) inherited from the MIUI era. As a result, HyperOS 4 is expected to become the first Xiaomi operating system built entirely without legacy MIUI components.

This extensive cleanup is designed to improve system efficiency while simplifying future software development and long-term maintenance.

Core System Rewritten with Modern Technologies

On the technical side, Xiaomi has reportedly rebuilt many of HyperOS 4’s core modules using the Rust programming language alongside the Flutter framework, replacing much of the older Java- and Kotlin-based architecture that accumulated over years of MIUI development.

The transition to a modern software stack is expected to provide several benefits, including:

Improved system stability

Better security through Rust’s memory-safe architecture

More efficient resource management

Easier future software maintenance

A stronger foundation for AI-powered features

This represents one of the most ambitious architectural changes Xiaomi has made to its mobile operating system.

Significant Performance Improvements

The underlying redesign is also expected to deliver noticeable gains in everyday performance.

According to the leaked information, HyperOS 4 offers:

Higher background app retention

Lower idle memory consumption

Faster application launching

More efficient resource scheduling

Improved multitasking performance

Perhaps most importantly, Xiaomi is reportedly addressing one of Android’s long-standing pain points: gradual performance degradation over time.

The company claims the new architecture dramatically reduces the slowdown that many smartphones experience after months or years of use, allowing devices to maintain smoother performance throughout their lifespan.

Better Experience for Mid-Range Devices

The lightweight kernel redesign is also expected to benefit more affordable smartphones.

By optimizing system resource scheduling, HyperOS 4 should allow mid-range and entry-level Xiaomi devices to deliver a smoother and more consistent user experience without requiring flagship-level hardware.

This optimization reflects Xiaomi’s broader strategy of improving software efficiency rather than relying solely on increasingly powerful chipsets.

New Liquid Glass-Inspired Interface

Alongside performance improvements, HyperOS 4 is also rumored to introduce a refreshed visual identity.

The new interface reportedly adopts a liquid glass-inspired design language, featuring translucent effects and dynamic animations similar to the design trends currently emerging across the mobile industry.

Users will reportedly be able to choose between two visual styles:

Transparent Mode

Soft Mode

The updated interface is designed to create a more modern, fluid, and immersive user experience while offering greater personalization options.

Enhanced Cross-Device Connectivity

Xiaomi is also expected to further expand its cross-device ecosystem with HyperOS 4.

The update reportedly improves connectivity and collaboration between Xiaomi smartphones, tablets, wearables, smart home products, and other ecosystem devices, making transitions between devices faster and more seamless.

These enhancements align with Xiaomi’s long-term strategy of building a fully connected intelligent ecosystem.

Rollout Schedule

According to the leaked roadmap, Xiaomi plans to prioritize its newest flagship devices during the initial rollout.

The first smartphones expected to receive the stable version include:

Xiaomi 17 series

REDMI K90 series

Other flagship models launched within the past year

Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s upcoming Xiaomi 18 series is expected to ship with HyperOS 4 pre-installed, allowing buyers to experience the redesigned operating system immediately out of the box.

Looking Ahead

If the leaked information proves accurate, HyperOS 4 will represent far more than a routine software update. By eliminating legacy MIUI code, rebuilding core components with modern programming technologies, and introducing a redesigned user interface alongside deeper ecosystem integration, Xiaomi appears to be laying the groundwork for the next generation of its software platform.

With an official announcement reportedly planned for early August, more details about HyperOS 4—including its complete feature set, supported devices, and rollout timeline—are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.

The second half of the year will witness the showdown of Android flagship devices, and Xiaomi’s 18 series will kick off this battle. As various leaks are revealed, the biggest change of this new generation of phones is that it has completely solved the problem of the previous standard versions’ “precise design but reduced configuration”. All models have their hardware fully optimized. However, due to the soaring supply chain costs, the price increase of Xiaomi 18 series is almost certain.

This year, Xiaomi 18 series adopted a new release model: Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max were released first in September, while the standard version was postponed. The top-of-the-line Xiaomi 18 Ultra was scheduled to be the last to be launched on December. All the new models were the first to feature the new flagship chip from Qualcomm, and they were the first to adopt the 2nm process from TSMC. The hardware performance has seen a significant upgrade.

In terms of performance, the entire lineup of Xiaomi 18 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 series 2nm flagship chip. The new 2+3+3 eight-core architecture, combined with a 16MB ultra-large cache, has achieved comprehensive upgrades in performance and power consumption optimization. The versions are clearly distinguished, with the standard edition and Pro edition using the Snapdragon 8E6, focusing on balance and stability; the Pro Max enjoys the full-blooded Snapdragon 8E6 Pro+ LPDDR6 memory, with the GPU performance fully optimized, firmly occupying the top position in the annual Android performance tier.

However, the price increase of the new model is inevitable. The cost of the 2nm process has soared significantly, and the cost of the Snapdragon 8E6 Pro chip has risen by over 20%, exceeding $300. Coupled with the increase in storage prices and other factors, the original starting price of 4,499 yuan is basically unattainable. The trend of collective price hikes for Android flagship models has been fully realized in the Xiaomi 18 series.

In terms of configuration, the standard version of Xiaomi 18 is highly feature-rich. It is equipped with a 6.4-inch small-sized ultra-clear straight screen, featuring extremely narrow quadrilateral bezels and a large R-corner design, providing excellent hand feel and visual experience. The Pro series upgrades to a 2K ultra-clear screen and adds a hardware-level anti-spy function, balancing display quality and privacy protection.

The camera system has undergone an epic upgrade. The standard version of Xiaomi 18 is the first to feature a 3X telephoto lens + dual 200-megapixel ultra-large sensors. This completely resolves the long-standing shortcoming of the standard version lacking a telephoto lens. The top-of-the-line Pro Max is equipped with a brand-new Leica 200-megapixel main camera, supporting LOFIC HDR 3.0 ultra-high dynamic range. It can prevent overexposure in highlights and ensure clarity in low light, with full pixel ultra-fast focusing, resulting in a significant upgrade in the quality of the final images.

The battery life and all the detailed configurations are at full capacity. All models are equipped with a larger battery and support dual fast charging (100W wired + wireless). This eliminates the worry about battery life. At the same time, it comes with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and full-level water resistance, providing an excellent experience. The product selection is also very clear: The Pro series retains the classic back screen, while the standard version gives up the back screen in exchange for a larger battery, catering to different user needs.

The system experience will undergo a qualitative leap. Xiaomi 18 will come pre-installed with the brand-new Hyper OS 4.0. The new version thoroughly removes the residual code of MIUI， restructures the core modules using the Rust language， making the system more lightweight， faster to start， lower in power consumption， and more stable. At the same time， a new Liquid Glass UI is added， featuring a transparent and soft new visual style. Its appearance level is comparable to iOS， and it will also become the mainstream design trend in the industry in the future.

Overall, the Xiaomi 18 series is the generation of flagship phones that has made the most significant progress in addressing shortcomings and has the strongest overall capabilities in recent years. It features 2nm chips across the entire series, standard version telephoto lenses, and a completely restructured system. The upgrade is very sincere. However, the price increase due to rising costs has also made this new model a subject of controversy.

Some people believe that the price increase of flagship models is an inevitable trend in the industry. There are also long-time fans of Xiaomi who lament that Xiaomi no longer focuses on offering affordable and cost-effective products. However, it is undeniable that the all-round and flaw-free configuration has made Xiaomi 18 the most anticipated Android flagship this year in the second half of the year, and the overall product strength has achieved a complete upgrade.

Over time, Android smartphones generate various system logs that record device activities, app behavior, errors, crashes, and diagnostic information. While these log files are useful for developers and troubleshooting, they can sometimes consume storage space and contribute to system clutter.

If your Android phone is running low on storage or you simply want to clean unnecessary system files, understanding how to safely manage and remove log files can help improve storage efficiency without affecting device performance.

What Are Android System Log Files?

System log files are records generated by the Android operating system and installed applications. These logs help developers and system administrators diagnose problems, monitor performance, and troubleshoot software issues.

Common types of Android logs include:

System logs

Crash logs

Application logs

Kernel logs

Debug logs

Event logs

Most log files are stored in protected system directories and are automatically managed by Android. However, some logs may accumulate in accessible storage locations, especially after software updates, app crashes, or diagnostic testing.

Do Log Files Take Up Significant Storage?

In most cases, Android log files consume relatively little storage. However, excessive logging caused by malfunctioning apps, beta software, or developer settings can generate large log files that occupy hundreds of megabytes or even several gigabytes.

Signs that log files may be consuming excessive storage include:

Unexplained storage usage

Large “Other” storage category

Frequent system crash reports

Developer options enabled for debugging

Persistent app error logs

Method 1: Clear Cached Data

The easiest way to remove temporary logs and system-generated files is by clearing cached data.

Steps:

Open Settings

Tap Storage

Select Cached Data (if available)

Confirm cache deletion

On newer Android versions:

Open Settings

Tap Apps

Select an app

Tap Storage

Choose Clear Cache

This process removes temporary files and may eliminate certain log-related data without affecting personal information.

Method 2: Use Android’s Built-In Storage Cleaner

Most Android manufacturers include built-in cleanup tools.

Samsung Devices

Open Settings

Tap Battery and Device Care

Select Storage

Tap Clean Now

Xiaomi Devices

Open Security App

Tap Cleaner

Scan device

Remove junk files

OnePlus Devices

Open Files

Tap Clean

Review recommended cleanup items

These tools often identify residual log files, temporary data, and unused files.

Method 3: Delete Log Files Using a File Manager

Some log files may be accessible through a file management application.

Common Locations

/Download

/Android/data

/MIUI/debug_log

/log

/BugReports

/CrashReports

Steps

Install a trusted file manager.

Navigate to storage folders.

Search for:

.log

bugreport

crash

dump

Review files carefully.

Delete only known log files.

Avoid removing files from system directories unless you fully understand their purpose.

Method 4: Remove Bug Reports

Android can generate detailed bug reports for diagnostics.

To Delete Bug Reports

Open Settings

Tap Storage

Open Files

Locate the Bug Reports folder

Delete old reports

Bug reports can be surprisingly large, especially after system crashes or troubleshooting sessions.

Method 5: Disable Excessive Logging in Developer Options

Developer settings can generate additional logs.

To Check Developer Options

Open Settings

Tap Developer Options

Review settings such as:

USB Debugging

Verbose Logging

Bug Report Shortcut

System Tracing

Disable features you no longer need.

If you do not use developer tools, consider turning Developer Options off entirely.

Method 6: Clear System Cache Partition (If Supported)

Some Android devices allow users to clear the cache partition through recovery mode.

General Procedure

Turn off the phone.

Enter Recovery Mode.

Select Wipe Cache Partition.

Confirm action.

Reboot the device.

This process removes temporary system files without deleting personal data.

Note that many modern Android devices have removed this option.

Method 7: Use ADB to Clear Logcat Logs

Advanced users can clear active Android logs using Android Debug Bridge (ADB).

Command

adb logcat -c

This command clears the current Logcat buffer.

Requirements:

USB debugging enabled

Android SDK Platform Tools installed

Computer connection

This method is intended primarily for developers and technical users.

What Not to Delete

Avoid deleting:

System folders

Android OS files

App databases

Configuration files

Unknown files in root directories

Removing critical system files can cause application crashes or device instability.

How Often Should You Clean Log Files?

For most users, manual log cleanup is rarely necessary. Android automatically manages most system logs and temporary files.

Consider cleaning logs if:

Storage is running low

You frequently test apps

Developer options are enabled

The device generates repeated crash reports

A troubleshooting session created large diagnostic files

A monthly cleanup is generally sufficient.

Benefits of Cleaning Log Files

Proper maintenance can provide several benefits:

More available storage space

Reduced file system clutter

Easier troubleshooting

Faster file indexing

Better organization of internal storage

However, users should not expect dramatic performance improvements solely from deleting log files.

Final Thoughts

Cleaning system log files on Android can help reclaim storage space and remove unnecessary diagnostic data. For most users, built-in storage cleaning tools and cache management features are sufficient. Advanced users can go further by reviewing bug reports, deleting accessible log files, or using ADB commands to clear active logs.

The key is to remove only unnecessary logs while avoiding critical system files. With occasional maintenance, your Android phone can stay organized, efficient, and free from excessive storage clutter.

Many users of Redmi Note 13 series notice battery drain issues where the system itself (MIUI/HyperOS system processes) consumes unusually high power. This can reduce screen-on time and make the phone feel less efficient even when apps are not heavily used.

In most cases, this is caused by background system activity, misconfigured settings, or software optimization issues rather than hardware defects.

Below is a complete guide to help you identify and fix the problem.

1. Check Battery Usage First

Before making changes, confirm what is draining your battery:

Go to:
Settings → Battery → Battery usage

Look for:

“System”

“Android OS”

“MIUI / HyperOS services”

If system usage is consistently high (above 25–40%), optimization is needed.

2. Restart the Phone (Quick Fix)

A simple restart can immediately reduce system drain caused by:

Stuck background processes

Temporary system bugs

Sync loops

Hold power button → Restart → check battery again after a few hours

3. Disable Unnecessary Background Autostart

Many system apps run in the background unnecessarily.

Steps:
Settings → Apps → Permissions → Autostart

Turn OFF for:

Unused Xiaomi apps

Third-party apps not needed for notifications

This reduces system wake-ups.

4. Limit Background Activity

Go to:
Settings → Battery → App battery saver

For high-drain apps:

Set to “Restrict background activity”

Or “Smart restrict”

This prevents system services from constantly waking apps.

5. Turn Off Always-On Network Scanning

System drain often comes from constant scanning.

Disable:

Wi-Fi scanning

Bluetooth scanning

Settings → Location → Location services → Disable scanning

6. Reduce Sync Frequency

Cloud and account sync can heavily affect system power usage.

Check:
Settings → Accounts & sync

You can:

Turn off auto-sync for unused accounts

Reduce sync frequency for Xiaomi Cloud, Gmail, etc.

7. Update System Software

Battery drain is often fixed in updates.

Go to:
Settings → About phone → System update

Install:

MIUI updates

HyperOS updates

Security patches

Many “system drain” bugs are patched in updates.

8. Clear Cache Partition (Advanced Fix)

System cache corruption can increase battery usage.

Steps:

Power off phone

Enter recovery mode

Select “Wipe cache”

9. Check for High Refresh Rate Impact

Redmi Note 13 supports high refresh rates, which increase system workload.

Try:

Switch from 120Hz → 60Hz
Path:
Settings → Display → Refresh rate

If battery improves significantly, system load is partly display-related.

10. Disable Unnecessary System Features

Turn off features you don’t use:

Always-on display

Nearby device scanning

These contribute to background system activity.

11. Check for Rogue Apps Triggering System Drain

Sometimes system battery usage is actually caused by apps.

Look for:

Social media apps running constantly

Uninstall or restrict suspicious apps.

12. Factory Reset (Last Resort)

If nothing works, a reset may be needed:

Settings → About phone → Factory reset

Use this only if:

Why “System” Uses So Much Battery on Redmi Note 13

Common causes include:

MIUI/HyperOS background optimization

Final Summary

If your Redmi Note 13 system consumes power too quickly, the issue is usually software-related and fixable. Start with simple steps like restarting, restricting background apps, and updating the system. If needed, move to deeper fixes like cache wiping or factory reset.

In most cases, users see noticeable improvement after adjusting background activity and updating the system.

iGEEKPHONE News reported on May 9th: The blogger “Digital chat Station” hinted that the next-generation operating system of Xiaomi, “Piranha OS 4”, is expected to be officially launched in June. The brand-new Xiaomi 18 series will be the first to ship with this system pre-installed.

Compared to the release of Hyper OS 3 in August last year, the release schedule of the new generation system has been significantly accelerated. Hyper OS 4 will further deepen the ecological construction centered around artificial intelligence and will prioritize the improvement of operational efficiency as the core of the technological iteration.

It is known that the Xiaomi system team is conducting a thorough overhaul of the underlying system. Starting from Hyper OS 3.1, system applications such as weather and photo album have removed the MIUI SDK, and the upcoming Hyper OS 4 plans to completely eliminate all residual code from the MIUI era.

By shedding the heavy historical burdens, Hyper OS 4 will transform into a more pure and independent operating system. This profound slimming process implies a qualitative leap in the system’s running speed and response sensitivity， and the system performance will become more lightweight.
One of the core goals of this system reconfiguration is to ensure that mid-range and low-end models can also enjoy long-lasting smooth experiences. By redistributing hardware resources from the bottom layer, the new system effectively resolves the performance bottleneck issues faced by low-power processors in resource-constrained environments.

Even on 200usd phones and mid-range devices, Hyper OS 4 can offer an extremely smooth experience. This precise optimization of the resource scheduling mechanism will significantly enhance the daily usage experience of non-flagship devices， and extend the lifecycle of the system.

Following Xiaomi’s usual update strategy, apart from the flagship series Xiaomi 18, many older flagship models including Xiaomi 17 series will also receive compatibility updates successively. For the majority of Xiaomi users, this is undoubtedly a very anticipated experience upgrade.

Igeekphone 3/26: According to Gizmochina on March 25, Xiaomi has officially stopped updating MIUI.
After the release of HyperOS, Xiaomi upgraded millions of devices to the new operating system, while many devices were added to the list of discontinued support.

However, in 2026, two overseas devices continued to receive MIUI updates – Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+. The operating system of these two devices was Android 13, and they continued to receive security patches and minor version updates. Their last update was the firmware version V14.0.44.0.TGOMIXM released in December 2025. The official website mentioned that support would be discontinued on March 24, 2026.

Now, both devices have officially stopped all types of software updates, marking the complete discontinuation of the traditional MIUI.

MIUI was actually the first product of Xiaomi. It was released earlier than any of Xiaomi’s hardware products. It was first launched in August 2010 and was based on the Android 2.2 Froyo system. The early versions of MIUI were distributed as custom ROMs for third-party Android phones.

On October 17, 2023, Xiaomi announced the new operating system, Xiaomi HyperOS, and gradually replaced MIUI.
