Elephone has also participated in the Global Sources Electronics 2018, bringing some interesting news to the fair, as anticipated by the latest rumors: the Chinese company has shown for the first time live the second generation of its U-Series with the models Elephone U2 and Elephone U2 Pro. The main attention will be surely focused on the Elephone U2 and U2 Pro flagship models because they will be the ones carrying the most modern and cutting-edge technologies.
Elephone U2 Pro integrates a 6.42-inch Full HD + AMOLED display (2160 x 1080 pixels) curved on the sides and with ultra-thin frames around, which reduce the thickness and make the phone more manageable. Basically, the front of this smartphone is entirely occupied by the screen, which will have a screen-to-body ratio of more than 90%, but such a solution has forced the Chinese company to study alternative ideas for selfie-camera and fingerprint: so the 16MP front camera pops up from the body (launching the dedicated app) and the fingerprint reader is hidden under the display . In short, Elephone U2 Pro is very fashionable.
Inspired by OPPO Find X, even Elephone has decided to integrate the 12MP + 5MP dual-camera in the pop-up trolley, leaving the rear part of the terminal completely free. This photographic module will be accompanied by the Flash LED, while the front one will integrate a 3D Structure Light to unlock the system through facial recognition. The frame, characterized by a glossy and iridescent finish, incorporates a 3600 mAh battery that can also support wireless charging. It is still not clear how much RAM / ROM will be installed in the final models, or what processor will power the device: MediaTek Helio P60 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. For sure there will be a USB Type-C, WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G-LTE and NFC.
The basic version called Elephone U2 will roughly adopt the same design concept, so it will essentially be a 4-sided borderless smartphone with a retractable front / rear camera. But there are differences and worth emphasizing: will have a smaller screen 6.26 inches Full HD + (2160 x 1080 pixels) but five cameras on board. Those front 20MP + 2MP will be pop-up and will only activate by launching the camera app, while the three rear 12MP + 5MP + 2MP will take place in the upper left corner, accompanied by the dual-tone Flash LED. Elephone U2 has a MediaTek Helio P60 SoC with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM, plus a 3500mAh battery. For this model, the Chinese company has chosen to cover the cover with glass and insert the fingerprint under the display.
Will be some other very interesting models from Elephone showcased or at least talked about, because the midrange PX series or even allegedly affordable Elephone A5 will be also featuring the Helio P60 and the mysterious Elephone SX series so far unknown Snapdragon processor. We do not yet know what the sales prices will be, but their launch is scheduled for 2019. We’ll know more about Elephone U2 and Elephone U2 Pro in a few months, probably in February during the MWC 2019 in Barcelona.
