September 7th was the day that UMi launched its latest flagship smartphone named the “UMi Plus”. Almost at the same time, Vernee also launched its latest flagship, “Vernee Mars“. Both mobiles, when someone read the characteristics and not only, are almost the same. But small details make the one or the other better, in order for the buyer to choose the correct one.

Design
UMI Plus has 5.5inch FHD IPS screen and 2.5D Arc display with 1920 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. It is also equipped with LTPS (Low Temperature PolySilicon) function, for keeping the display cooler. The display is made from Sharp, which means better and brighter from other displays. It comes with 6,000 series Aluminum alloy design with anodic oxidation process to make UMI Plus become a quality smartphone. On the front, there is a home button as usual to support fingerprint scanner and 5.5inch FHD screen to show high screen-to-body ratio. Its metal unibody and 2.5D curved display makes us hold it comfortably and smoothly. The 1080p screen absolutely brings us amazing visual experience. On the top front, there is a receiver, a microphone and LED notification. On the right side, there is a volume button and power button, on the left side, there is SIM card slot, as for the bottom, two speaker and a USB Type C port. There is a back camera and Two-tone Flashlight and a UMI logo lining up. And the fascinating streamline is around the phone.
Vernee Mars adopts all metal design, CNC processing, 81% screen-to-body ratio, it comes with 5.5inch FHD Corning Gorilla 3 Screen, which brings us amazing screen color and 178 degrees wide viewing angle, 95% NTSC, 1000:1 contrast, so we can feel the quite clear screen to watch videos, play games, read e-books, etc. In general, it is full of aesthetics to compare with other android phones. It has 15.10 x 7.30 x 0.76 cm dimensions, 0.470 kg weight, which seems very thin to hold in hands.
So what differs here is that Umi has a better IPS display, since the constructor is Sharp. Also the LTPS function is something that many must take under consideration, since it helps prolonging the mobiles life. Other than that everything else is the same.
Hardware
UMI Plus is powered by Helio P10 Octa core 1.8Ghz processor, based on TSMC HPC+ technology, which has best energy efficiency ratio. Coupled with RAM 4GB ROM 32GB eMMC 5.1, can run large game without any problem. If we don’t think it’s enough for us, we can insert a TF card to expand the storage up to ROM 256GB. It uses Mali-T860 GPU to improve the image processing. Therefore, when we play games, or watch videos, the fluency and smoothness are what UMI Plus can provide amazingly.
Vernee Mars is also powered by Helio P10 Octa core 2.0 Ghz processor, which has higher efficiency and fast speed to run multi-tasking for you. Meanwhile, it has RAM 4GB ROM 32GB eMMC 5.0 that can meet our high needs to store any file we want. If we need more space, we can use an extra TF card to expand the storage to 128GB. Therefore, do you feel large enough for you to store your videos we want to watch? Vernee Mars has really made the balance between operation speed and power consumption by this kind of hardware.
Here both mobiles use the same CPU, a Helio P10, with 4GB of Ram. What makes Umi slightly better is that can take up to 256GB TF card and internal rom is eMMC 5.1.
Camera
Umi Plus main camera is a Samsung S5K3L8 13.0MP with AF, ISOCELL sensor type and two-tone flashlight and front camera is a GALAXYCORE GC5005 5.0MP, supporting PDAF, which can let us enjoy 0.1s ultra fast focusing technology, commonly found in DLSR cameras and aperture f/2.8. We can take pictures with high-end quality, natural and bright in the day and less noise at night. This time, UMI has really improved its dual camera quality to meet for those photographers’ needs.
Vernee Mars it has a main camera from Sony IMX 258 Exmor RS 13.0MP with F/2.0 aperture,CMOS sensor type, dual tone LED flashlight and PDAF function which can help us take photos to record every moment in our life and work conveniently and clearly and front camera 5.0MP, which will be the standard selfie shooter for better beautification. Therefore, we can experience the ultimate experience in its dual camera.
Here both cameras are very good, from different companies, well known for the cameras, so I guess we will not find a winner here.
Battery
UMI Plus is also famous for big battery with 4,000mAh, which is very slim and light, providing more 26% power than before, adding software optimization, it can save more power when we use. And it supports quick charge PE+ 2.5 degree quick charge, to help us charge phone full faster, according to UMI official, it can support 15 hours gaming, 17 hours video playing, 48 hours 4G call, and 121 hours music play in terms of its battery life. What’s more, thanks to PE+ Quick charge, it can support charging quickly in 30 minutes for one day normal use, and takes 100 minutes to charge full. We can use USB Type c cable for faster transmission.
Vernee Mars on the other hand has a 3,000mAh battery, which can support at least one day for normal and light use. But if you often use it to watch videos, play games for longer, you also don’t have to worry that it support quick charge to help you charge your phone full very faster than before. Only that Umi Plus has 4000mAh and Vernee Mars has only 3000mAh, I don’t think we must search who is the winner here!?
Other Functions
UMI Plus this time adopts Touch ID 2.1+ which can support up to 0.1s to unlock fast, and encrypt by fingerprint for safer storing files. It has supported 256GB storage space to meet your needs, and 3-choose-2 SIM tray and HIFI+ sound quality, running Android 6.0 OS. Umi also has Awinic AW 8738 and Smart PA. It also supports Glonass, except from GPS and A-GPS, WiFi Display. Umi Plus is equipped with BT 4.1 and VoLTE.
Vernee Mars is not only well-known for its hardware, but also some outstanding features such as fingerprint scanner, USB Type C, GPS, A-GPS, 4G etc. It runs stock Android 6.0 OS, supporting OTA updating, multi-languages that improve users’ experience. Vernee is equipped with BT 4.0.

Conclusion
Umi Plus and Vernee Mars are very good Android smartphone . The have very good features, both of them, but several details makes one of them better. And better is Umi Plus! The bigger battery of 4000mAh, more features like BT 4.1, VoLTE, Glonass, faster eMMC 5.1, supporting up to 256GB TF card, are details very important for the future buyer, which I believe will make him choose Umi Plus from Vernee Mars.
