Meizu‘s chairman, Jack Wang, is an avid follower of a smartphone with asymmetrical design. That’s why most other manufacturers have turned to “notch” or “perforated” screens to provide a full-screen design, with smartphones still having a pretty thick top/bottom bezel.
Not long ago, there was a rumor that Meizu had started developing its next-generation flagship, called Meizu 17. And today, a new leak has suddenly posted renderings of this phone, thereby revealing much interesting information about the design of the device.
The device, judging by the image, will receive a design in the style of the Samsung Galaxy S9: a display that goes to the side edges and thin frames at the top and bottom. Despite the small size of the frame, a selfie camera will be placed in it – which means there are no outgoing modules with optics.
Presumably, the sensor will serve as a 43.7MP SOCELL slim GH1 image sensor which has a single pixel size of just 0.7 μm. This module was just announced this week and the company promises to begin mass production at the end of this year. As for the main camera, they can install a 64MP module as the main sensor and this will be a solution from Samsung.
In the Meizu road map published at the beginning of July, forecasts appeared that the smartphone of this manufacturer with 5G will debut only in the second half of 2020. Perhaps, however, the frameless Meizu 17 with 5G will appear earlier than originally planned.
We can assume that the smartphone will be based on the top platform from Qualcomm and, most likely, the choice will fall on the Snapdragon 865. Unfortunately, the remaining configuration information of Meizu 17 has not been disclosed. Hopefully in the next few days, we will have more information about this flagship.
