For weeks the arrival of the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick has been rumored, a device that will turn our old televisions into a Smart TV. After appearing on Gearbest, today Xiaomi Germany shared an image of the device that confirms its imminent launch.
According to the photo, the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick will have a remote control with buttons to access Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. In terms of design it is very similar to the Fire TV Stick, although with a more simplified control. The Mi TV Stick connects via an HDMI input, just like its Amazon counterpart or the Chromecast.
WinFuture reports that the announcement was made during the presentation of the Redmi Note 9 series in Germany. Xiaomi did not offer its full specifications, although it did reveal that the remote control includes a special button to invoke the Google Assistant.
The control is virtually identical to that included in the My Box S.
This feature allows voice control of the device and aims to compete with the Fire TV Stick 4K, which has support for Alexa. This feature is very useful for accessing hands-free playback. The Chromecast does not have a remote control, although it can be controlled with the Google Assistant through our Android, iOS, and Google Home mobiles.
Xiaomi did not reveal the specifications, although it is presumed that it will include Android TV. In terms of hardware it is rumored to be almost identical to the Mi Box S, with an ARM Cortex A53 quad-core Amlogic S905 processor, a Mali-G31 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and support for a micro SD card.
The Xiaomi Mi TV Stick will be powerful enough to play video in 4K HDR and 60 frames per second and support for Dolby DTS. Its estimated price is around $79.99 on Gearbest, although in the case of Xiaomi we could estimate a lower amount. Recall that the Mi Box S initially sold for $60 when it was released in late 2018. For now there is no official price or estimated launch date.
