The Rise Of Wearable Technology And Its Scope In Various Sectors

Wearable technologies market size has witnessed tremendous growth rates while the technology keeps evolving and diving deeper into the lives of individuals belonging to a broader age group. As per reports, the number of connected wearable devices is anticipated to reach more than 1.1 billion by the year 2022, as we shift from 4G to 5G.

The rapid growth of mobile networks, internet connectivity, high-speed data transfer, and smaller microprocessors has led to increased demand for wearables. These wearable devices can be worn in different ways, on the body(smart clothes), in the body(implants), and around the body(smartwatches and fitness trackers). With fast advancements in wearable technology, its scope and applications are spreading in various fields.

Every wearable needs an application that manages and monitors the device’s features as well as connects it to the smartphone; these apps are generally referred to as “Wearable Apps.” This blog will give you an insight into some of the most popular scopes and applications of wearables.

    #1 Wearables in Healthcare

The role of wearable technology in healthcare for monitoring and measuring various parameters and, at times performing unique functions is rising rapidly. Fitness trackers monitor parameters like heart rate, sleep quality, distance walked, calories burned, body temperature, and various other activity levels. By keeping track of this information, we can figure out irregularities in our daily activities such as sleeping patterns and workout levels and try to rectify these issues by taking adequate measures and engaging in healthy habits. Some wearables like Omron’s HeartGuide can monitor the blood pressure as well as perform other functions that a fitness tracker does.

Wearables are finding their potential applications in monitoring vulnerable patients who are prone to fluctuating levels of specific health vitals. For example, personalized wearable technology can be implanted or fitted on the patient’s body, and in case of emergency, the device may address the situation by giving proper treatment. Suppose the insulin level of a person has suddenly decreased; this wearable device will instantly inject an appropriate insulin level in the body.

#2 Wearables in Tourism and Travel Industry

Wearable technology has helped a lot when it comes to the aviation industry. Air travel involves many security checks and other high-level processes to be carried out between passengers and airlines. To reduce the complexity of air travel, many airline companies are moving towards a new approach that includes wearables. For example, Virgin Atlantic has given access to its staff at Heathrow Airport, London, to use Google Glass to provide better service to travelers. These glasses let Virgin Atlantic provide real-time information regarding the weather, flight timings, delays, and language translations to the travelers. The wearables also help travelers by answering questions about the airport journey and other information regarding the gates and baggage, thereby reducing queues at the customer service desk.

Many travel companies are using AR integrated Wearable technology to provide a virtual visit to a wide range of tourist destinations. This virtual tour helps the customer decide which place to visit and also improves the customer experience. The travel companies can also provide virtual tours to hotels to improve the lodging experience. #3 Wearables for Entertainment

The rise of wearable technology has led to a complete transition in the gaming experience of a player. VR headsets such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are examples of wearable technology, the moment the user puts on these headsets, he enters a new virtual world. Unlike previous games, the user can get real-world experience and get a sense of being present in the game in-person, therefore improving and revolutionizing the gaming experience in a whole new way. Moreover, watching movies in these headsets is an excellent experience too.

#4 Wearables for Improving shopping experience

Wearable technology can help retailers to improve their customer’s shopping experience and, in return, boost their sales. Retailers can provide wearables like smart glasses to the customers where they get their shopping list updated. These glasses will give in-store navigation to the customers based on their shopping requirements and therefore let them finish their shopping quickly and leisurely.

Moreover, with smart glasses, the customer may not need to try clothes as these glasses can show how the dress they’ve chosen would look on them by putting that dress virtually on the wearer, and it feels the same as looking at a mirror. Thus with minimal effort and in a short duration, the customer can try lots of clothes.

    #5 Wearables in Manufacturing Industry

Big-scale industries have extensive production facilities and warehouses. It cannot be easy sometimes to locate raw materials or other parts for production and to manage the inventory. But when finding the components and managing the inventory is integrated with wearable technology, the task becomes more manageable. Industries can use smart glasses for this purpose.

The list of raw materials or parts needed for production can be loaded into smart glasses, and when the worker or a new joiner wears it, these glasses will navigate the workers to the correct place where they can find everything that is needed. Moreover, inventory managers can use these glasses to keep track of the present stock and the future requirement in the inventory. This can lead to better time management and efficient productivity.

    Wrapping Up

Wearables are entirely revolutionizing the businesses as well as the lives of the people utilizing it. At present, wearable technologies are available in the form of Fitness trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses, VR headsets, smart clothes, and implantables. This technology is creating a healthier, safer, more entertaining, and a brighter future.

Wearable technology has evolved as a boon for people with a wide range of disabilities too. Extensive research is being carried out further to improve the future and the potential of these technologies.
