Xiaomi is preparing to release a foldable smartphone that can compete with similar gadgets from Samsung and Huawei. It will not be called especially original – Xiaomi Mi Z Fold. In March 2020, Xiaomi Mobile Software filed a design patent with the World Intellectual Property Office. The patent was approved on September 18, 2020, and the documentation contains 16 product sketches, which showing the foldable phone from all angles.
Letsgodigital now used these sketches to create a more visual device model. When folded, Xiaomi’s proprietary phone has displays on the front and back. Which means you get a pretty chunky smartphone with two displays. There are already similar models on the market, such as the latest from Samsung.
The device has a huge flexible screen, in addition to having a large front screen available. This front panel has a hole for the front camera. It should be noted that there is no main camera in the sketches. This is because the patent specifically focuses on the display, how the device folds, and possible use cases.
The right panel houses the power and volume buttons, as well as a slot for the SIM cards. Also, the smartphone should receive stereo speakers on the top and bottom, as well as a USB-C connector.
Without a doubt, the front screen is very similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, recently introduced. Apart from this camera, there are no other cameras visible on this folding phone. This certainly has to do with the way of folding, as the back of the device disappears inwards during folding.
The advantage of having a dual-fold screen is mainly that of having a 16: 9 screen instead of a 5: 4 screen. In addition to the larger diagonal, this form factor makes it easier to resize applications and multimedia content. As well as no frames or black bands in the middle.
It is important to note that Xiaomi’s first folding smartphone, the prototype of which was shown last year, also flexed in two places, but it had a different form factor. It seems that Xiaomi continues to move in this direction and that it is getting closer and closer to presenting its model.
