2021 Mobile Phone Repairing Cost Guide

Brady CottonBy Brady CottonJanuary 2, 2021
Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr Email

In 2018 it was found that Americans break two smartphone screens every second, costing over $3.4 billion annually in smartphone repair costs!

Cell phone repair cost can nearly be as expensive as a new phone. The general rule for repair vs replace is if something costs more than 50% of a new product, buy a new product. But we need to add a warning here — what if it’s already the newest model phone? Are you looking for iPhone screen repair services in Manchester?

We’ll cover that and more in our phone repair cost guide. Ready to learn more?

    Keep scrolling!

Gimme a Break: Phone Repair Cost Examples

We hope you aren’t one of the 26% that drop their phones in the toilet, resulting in broken screens, water damage, and more. But the fact remains that repairs are necessary into the foreseeable future. We can’t just buy a new phone every time something goes wrong, especially with the cost of phones increasing every year.

Phone screen repair costs are going to set you back between $50-$330 depending on whether it is an Android or iPhone.

Water damaged phone repair cost is about $70 to effectively dry out the product and clean off corrosion. If the electronics are too corroded, however, you’ll need new motherboards, screens, or both. The average price for phone camera repair cost is about $70 unless the camera is built into the motherboard, in which case you’ll have to replace that as well.

The cost of a motherboard depends on the model and can range from $40-$400 (or more).

Low-cost phone repair can be a big temptation, but ask yourself why you are getting a lower quote for your phone than another place. Are they using genuine parts? Are the parts from stolen phones?

All valid and good questions to ask.

For answers those questions, you have to figure out where you’ll go for your smartphone repairs. Don’t worry, we have you covered there too.

Where Do I Go For Phone Repairs?

Finding a good repair shop can be tough if you’ve never had to get your phone repaired before. Do you rely on the recommendation of friends, or online reviews for a local shop? What about your cousin who builds computers?

There are a few places to try before others, but online reviews are not a bad idea.

    • Original manufacturers (if under warranty)
    • Chains like Geek Squad
    • Amazon

Sending your phone to Samsung or Apple makes sense and on newer phones is actually the cheapest option. How new? You’ll have to do research to find out exactly, but within 6-8 months, there are, in general, not a lot of aftermarket or repair products yet.

Chains like BestBuy’s Geek Squad or Staples, for drying out a phone, are common places to bring bruised and damaged electronics in need of repair. They can do a great job, not to mention offer warranties of their own. They are also certified by Samsung and Apple most of the time.

For other brands, you’ll have to do some detective work or asking the company directly if they are certified by your phone’s manufacturer. They will often repair other brands, but might not be certified. Either way, they could offer warranties on the repair work.

Surprisingly, Amazon also repairs phones. Under home services, you may find all kinds of interesting goodies, including mobile device repair. They also have other services such as home theater setup, smart home services, and more.

As we mentioned before, on brand-new phones the prices are probably going to be better at the original manufacturer for the first few months after release, maybe up to a year. After that, Amazon services could be cheaper.

Preventing Phone Repair: What You Can Do

Phone repair is never fun or convenient, with some repairs lasting days and delivery times before it’s back to normal working order. One way to beat phone repair woes is just not to need them in the first place. Companies like Mobile Mob sell protective cases that are also gorgeous accessories to express yourself.

Screen protectors are another method for preventing cracks and breaks on your phone screen. While the extra glass on the screen can sometimes make touch sensitivity to be reduced, it’s a guaranteed way to prevent costly repairs.

Aftermarket screens are likely not Gorilla Glass from Corning that the manufacturer installed. That means they’re more likely to crack or break again unless they’re from the manufacturer of your phone. Using cases and screen protectors go a long way to saving your phone and your wallet from unnecessary repairs.

One more tip involves dust plugs for charging ports and headphone jacks. These protect your phone from dust and lint which will clog and corrode over time. It won’t prevent water damage could slow it from ingress to your phone.

Phone Repair Cost: Is It Worth It to Replace?

Given the increasing prices of phones and phone repair cost, only you can really say if it’s worth it to replace or repair. The cost could be only $50 on a $1000 phone or over $500 for an 800$ phone. Likely the cost of your repair will likely be somewhere in the middle.

If that’s the case, IGeekphone has you covered with tons of articles to inform you about the latest tablets, phones, and more to geek out on.
