Xiaomi is not only famous for different kinds of smartphones with competitive price and specs, but also its ripe OS, MIUI OS. In May, 2016, Xiaomi has released MIUI 8 OS , right now MIUI 8 Global/China ROM has come out to support different models of Xiaomi. We believe some users have updated their MI Phones to MIUI 8 now. However, we also heard Xiaomi started to launch MIUI 9 OS since last November based on Android7.0 Nougat. But some Chinese smartphone giant has posted the news in the forum that they have got source code of Android N from Google, and asked fans whether they want multi-window to support on MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat.
As for release date of MIUI 9, it will come out at least after June 2017 because Xiaomi still will release MIUI 9 beta version for different Xiaomi smartphones first. And MIUI 8 Global stable update will be officially published from August 16th, 2016. Therefore, MIUI 9 OS will come out in the second half of 2017.
Xiaomi MIUI OS update will not support all android smartphones or tablet pcs. As you know, Xiaomi MI4 was released in 2014 to run Android4.4 kitkat with MIUI 6 OS. After MIUI 7 comes out, Xiaomi MI4 can support updaing to MIUI7 but based on Android Kitkat. We hope MIUI 9 can also support old models and new models upgrade.
MIUI 8 OS has brought some nice features like scrolling screenshots, dual Space, updating calculator app, second space, MIUI Caller ID, integrated payment, new Gallery app for video editing and cloud storage and so on. So MIUI 9 will have more features than our expectation such as Multi-window support, Quick-reply from notifications, Optimized doze mode, better RAM optimization, New Launches and Themes. Improved data saver, always-on VPN, Call screening, dual space, dual apps and so on.
As for supporting models, these Xiaomi smartphones are expected to upgrade MIUI 9, such as Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 4, Redmi 3/3s/Prime, MI5, MI Note 2, MI MIX, MI MAX, Redmi 4, MI4C, MI4I, MI Pad 2, MI5S Plus, and so on.
Of course, besides OTA update, you can also update your phone by flashing MIUI 9 Recovery and fastboot ROM, Recovery ROM can be installed by booting your device into recovery mode when installing mi flash tool for fastboot ROM. When it announces, we will share with you.
