In terms of appearance, the Xiaomi Mijia Air Purifier 5 follows the brand’s signature design, featuring pure white tones and clean lines, making it easily recognizable. Its size matches the previous generation, measuring 250×250×555mm and weighing 5.2kg.
The OLED touchscreen displays the current operating status and the room’s PM2.5 levels. This version also introduces dust information, allowing the purifier to detect changes in particulate matter such as dust, decoration dust, sandstorms, PM10, pollen, and more through its dust sensors.
The buttons at the bottom control the power/standby function and allow users to switch operating modes. The fan grille at the top has a detailed design. The middle part of the top cover can be pressed down and removed with a screwdriver, making it easy for users to clean the internal air duct and fan blades.

After connecting, you can explore the functions of the Mijia Air Purifier 5 through the APP. You can adjust the wind speed, check the filter life, activate the UV light for air disinfection, continuously release negative ions, set the timer, control the smart scene, and customize the prompt sound and display brightness.
In the purification capacity test, all functions of the Air Purifier 5, except for the power switch, were controlled via the Mi Home APP.
Purification Capacity Test
The Xiaomi Mijia Air Purifier 5 delivers a particulate clean air volume of 400m³/h, a formaldehyde clean air volume of 150m³/h, a cumulative formaldehyde purification volume of 600mg, and a cumulative particulate matter purification volume of 12,000mg, ensuring comprehensive air purification in rooms up to 48 square meters.
The test took place in a single room of an office building, approximately 10 to 15 square meters, with doors and windows closed. To assess the purification effect, I lit two wormwood mosquito coils and checked the indoor air quality after half an hour. After 30 minutes, the PM2.5 level reached 600μg/m³, and the dust index hit 100, both exceeding the air purifier’s monitoring limit.
I then activated the favorite gear and adjusted the wind speed to maximum. Within about 30 minutes, the PM2.5 level dropped to an excellent range, while dust levels took roughly 20 minutes to reach a similarly clean state.
PM2.5, commonly from factory emissions, traffic pollutants, cooking, smoking, ultrasonic humidifiers, or scented candles, can also rise due to these sources. PM2.5 levels between 1-20μg/m³ are considered excellent, 21-35μg/m³ good, 36-75μg/m³ moderate, and anything above 76μg/m³ is poor.
Dust sources typically include road dust, sandstorms, pollen, and animal dander. Daily activities like cleaning, decorating, textile arrangement, and pet activities can cause PM2.5 fluctuations, which may trigger rhinitis in some users. Dust levels between 1-5 are rated excellent, 6-10 good, 11-14 moderate, and above 15 poor.
Noise
Wind noise in sleep mode drops as low as 48 dB. The Xiaomi Mijia Air Purifier 5 supports multi-gear adjustment, so we tested its sleep mode, three gears, and manual maximum gear. We conducted the test in a single room in an office building. With the doors and windows closed, external sounds were faintly audible, and the ambient noise ranged between 45-50dB. Testing the purifier at its maximum wind speed revealed that the noise level reached 91.3dB, comparable to a motorcycle engine, making the noise relatively noticeable. 
In manual second gear mode, the noise level reached 60dB, similar to slight noise on a quiet street, within the range of human conversation. In manual third gear mode, the noise rose to 80dB, 20dB higher than in manual first gear, equivalent to loud talking or singing, making the noise quite apparent.
At manual third gear, the noise reached 87dB, 10dB higher than manual second gear, where the noise level was also noticeable. In sleep mode, the noise level ranged between 48-50dB, 10dB lower than the manual gear, with wind noise remaining weak, allowing users to sleep comfortably.
Verdict
The Mijia Air Purifier 5 now enhances its original air purification capabilities by adding dust detection, further boosting its effectiveness. With the new dust detection feature, users can easily monitor indoor dust levels and take necessary precautions.
Regarding its purification performance, even when indoor dust levels are extremely high, the purifier effectively reduces them to an excellent level within 15 to 20 minutes and maintains them below 5. During allergy-prone seasons like spring and autumn, this purifier delivers clean indoor air, removing most allergens and significantly reducing the incidence of rhinitis.
Additionally, it purifies PM 2.5 particles to an excellent level within 30 minutes, while the negative ions help decompose harmful substances, sterilizing and disinfecting the air to ensure cleanliness. However, in the favorite gear (maximum) or manual three-speed mode, the noise level is relatively high, which can disrupt communication and sleep.
