Igeekphone 27 February: The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the MX business unit of Samsung Electronics, Choi Won-joon, was interviewed by the media yesterday. He stated that Samsung Electronics is still considering whether to launch a new generation of Galaxy S Edge ultra-thin and Galaxy Z TriFold three-fold form factor smartphones.
Choi Won-joon admitted that the sales volume of the S25 Edge last year was lower than that of other product lines. He stated that there were differences in user demands and priorities. Samsung “has not yet decided when to launch the next (ultra-thin) product, but is still considering it.”

Regarding the three-fold device, this executive acknowledged that the engineering development of the initial project was extremely complex. He said: “Our initial idea was more like creating a new product category and fully committing all of our expertise to it. Now we are considering whether we should develop a new product category? We haven’t made a decision yet.”

However, Samsung MX has not stopped exploring new product forms. Choi Won-joon stated that Samsung is considering all different options within the single-fold phone category. A smartphone with a width similar to TriFold but with only one crease might be a new member of the company’s product line this year, to meet the market demand for wide-screen mobile devices.

Regarding the anti-spying display technology introduced in the S26 Ultra, Choi Won-joon said that Samsung originally intended to implement it on the S25 Ultra, but due to several technical challenges, it had to be postponed by one year. This technology is also expected to be expanded to more models when the time is ripe. Additionally, Samsung is still developing the next-generation S Pen touch pen internally.
