Igeekphone News, July 28 – Huawei is reportedly preparing to expand its Nova 16 lineup with the introduction of the Huawei Nova 16 SE. According to Chinese tech tipster Dingzhao Digital, the new smartphone is scheduled to debut on August 5, bringing back the SE series after a three-year absence.
The upcoming device is expected to feature a refreshed gradient design, Huawei’s Kirin 8020 processor, and the company’s flagship-inspired Red Maple Imaging technology, marking the first time this advanced camera system is expected to reach the mid-range Nova SE lineup.
Nova SE Series Returns After Three Years
Huawei last released an SE-branded Nova smartphone in 2023 with the Nova 11 SE, which launched at a starting price of 1,999 yuan. Since then, the SE variant has been absent from the Nova family.
The reported launch of the Nova 16 SE signals the return of the product line, offering consumers another affordable option within Huawei’s popular mid-range smartphone series.

At the heart of the Nova 16 SE is the Kirin 8020, Huawei’s latest mid-range mobile chipset.

- 26% faster GPU performance
- 128% improvement in NPU (AI processing) performance
These upgrades are expected to provide smoother everyday performance, improved gaming capabilities, and significantly enhanced on-device AI features.
Flagship Red Maple Imaging Comes to the Mid-Range
One of the Nova 16 SE’s most notable features is expected to be Huawei’s Red Maple Color Camera, a technology previously reserved for higher-end devices.
Unlike a conventional camera sensor, the Red Maple Color Camera functions as a multispectral sensor, designed to capture environmental light and color information with exceptional precision.
The sensor reportedly features more than 1.5 million multispectral channels, enabling it to record image-level spectral data from the surrounding environment.
During image processing, the camera system combines this spectral information with data captured by the primary camera and other imaging sensors. Huawei’s AI algorithms then analyze and compare the information to generate colors that more closely match the real-world scene.
The result is expected to include:
- More accurate color reproduction
- Improved white balance
- Reduced color deviation
- More natural-looking photos
- Enhanced consistency across different lighting conditions
