Redmi K60 Ultra vs Redmi K60: Which One Should You Buy?

    HabibBy HabibAugust 17, 2023
Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr Email

The official launch of the Redmi K60 Ultra has garnered impressive results, highlighting the commendable blend of specifications and pricing. This model firmly establishes itself as a competitive contender among smartphones priced around 2000 yuan. Offering a substantial 24GB of operational memory, the Redmi K60 Ultra distinguishes itself, but let’s not disregard the competitiveness of the Redmi K60. Remarkably, this model has undergone several price reductions. For instance, the 12+256GB variant now costs just 2199 yuan, marking a 400 yuan decrease compared to the K60 Ultra. Aspects like this choose between the two models depending on the user’s photography requirements.

    Display

Both models sport expansive 6.67-inch domestic OLED screens. Notably, the Redmi K60 boasts a 2K resolution, 12-bit color, a rapid 120Hz refresh rate, high-frequency PWM dimming at 1920Hz, and an impressive peak brightness of 1400 nits. On the other hand, the Redmi K60 Ultra features a 1.5K resolution, 12-bit color support, a high-frequency PWM dimming of 2880Hz, a 144Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 2600 nits.

Upon analyzing these screen parameters, it’s evident that, aside from a disparity in resolution, the K60 Ultra presents notable advantages in brightness, dimming, and refresh rate. It indeed represents an improvement compared to earlier Redmi models. However, compared to competing devices, it can be considered a mid-range option at this price point.

    Hardware

The Redmi K60 Ultra boasts a claimed 1.77 million Entertainment Rabbit benchmark score, though it tends to reach around 1.6 million in reality. Recognizing that benchmark scores aren’t definitive indicators and can be influenced by variables like temperature, mode, and background applications is crucial. The internet’s reference to a 1.14 million score might stem from background apps, elevated room temperature, or the absence of performance mode activation.

Shifting our focus to hardware, the Redmi K60 operates on the Snapdragon 8+ processor, an excellent chip with strong performance comparable to the previous year’s flagship SOC. Its gaming temperature control is also commendably stable, cementing its reputation as a top-tier performance chip.

In contrast, the Dimensity 9200+ processor featured in the Redmi K60 Ultra sparks debates due to its slightly controversial nature. While its performance surpasses the Snapdragon 8+, it’s associated with higher power consumption, some of which seem to be traded off for enhanced performance. Redmi has compensated for this by incorporating a substantial 5000mm² VC vapor chamber to stabilize power usage.

    Cameras

The primary disparity in camera capabilities between the Redmi K60 and K60 Ultra is found in their rear main cameras. The Redmi K60 houses a 64-megapixel primary camera with the OV64B sensor. Its imaging performance is relatively average, especially in low-light conditions. The redeeming feature here is OIS optical image stabilization, enhancing stability.

Conversely, the Redmi K60 Ultra boasts a 50-megapixel primary camera utilizing the rear Sony IMX800 sensor, a lens shared with the Mi 13. It offers notable advantages in night and daytime photography compared to the K60. However, it falls short of flagship phones, particularly in low-light scenarios where noise tends to be more prominent and images darker. Nonetheless, thanks to higher specifications and Xiaomi’s imaging prowess, its overall performance remains commendable in the 2000 yuan range.

    Battery

The Redmi K60 has a 5500mAh internal battery, supporting 67W wired and 30W wireless charging. In contrast, the Redmi K60 Ultra accommodates a 5000mAh battery but compensates with blazing-fast 120W wired flash charging. Each model presents its unique strengths, with the K60 excelling in battery life and the Redmi K60 Ultra offering speedy charging.

Moreover, the Redmi K60 Ultra surpasses expectations by including IP68 support, an exceptional feature uncommon among mid-range models that pleasantly surprise users.

    Conclusion

In summary, if you’re seeking a balanced smartphone, the Redmi K60 Ultra‘s 2599 yuan option with ample storage is enticing. It strikes an equilibrium across all aspects without any noticeable shortcomings. Conversely, if photography isn’t a primary focus, the Redmi K60 is more suitable. Its core strengths encompass a 2K screen, generous battery, wireless charging, and more affordable pricing.
