5 Mobile App Trends That Will Dominate the Rest of 2021

Brady CottonBy Brady CottonMay 19, 2021
Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr Email

The mobile app industry is possibly the fastest evolving in the entire economy. Every new year produces new technologies and new ways to implement existing technologies in mobile applications, shifting the experience for consumers across all industries. Check https://theinternetslots.com/ca/ here.

2021 will be no different. In fact, there are several big mobile app trends likely to dominate the rest of 2021 and beyond – let’s break them down now.

    Increased AI and ML

AI and machine learning technologies will continue to become more prevalent and important for modern applications. Machine learning in particular will be leveraged for data collection and prediction, especially for apps that rely on data collection to provide more user-focused experiences for individuals.

However, both AI and machine learning will be used for things we can’t even imagine. FaceApp, an (in)famous mobile application that can add filters to user photos to predict what they might look like with different features or age limitations, is just the tip of the iceberg.

With AI and machine learning, app developers will be able to expand the kinds of apps they bring to the mobile market and increase the functions that existing apps have to offer. For example, the best online casino apps in Japan could use artificial intelligence and machine learning to showcase specific games that users are predicted to like based on their gaming habits.

Apps in other industries might also leverage AI and machine learning to:

    • Improve their security
    • Collect more data for analysis and advertising
    • Track users’ locations
    • Education benefits
    • Provide helpful information
    • And more

    Chatbots for CS

Customer service plays a big role in overall user experience and review scores for all apps, whether they’re game apps, online casino apps, or something else entirely.

At the moment, many customer service positions are filled by living, breathing humans. But that may soon change with the rise of chatbots and other automated programs. Chatbots represent a way for app developers to save money and companies to save manpower. Instead of having to hire a full customer service team, companies may eventually be able to get away with hiring a single customer service manager and delegating all of the customer service communications to chatbots.

Chatbots could crop up on almost every app on the market sooner or later. Since these simplistic programs can be designed to respond to basic questions and provide simple advice, they can easily be integrated across different industries or niches. Apps for gaming, entertainment, news, investing, or anything else can leverage chatbots for fast response times and basic customer service needs.

More complex customer service needs, of course, will still be delegated to the human element. But this development might be more prevalent than we can predict, especially given the rise of frequent work from home, driven by the coronavirus pandemic.

    IoT Integration

It’s also likely that we’ll see increased integration for Internet of Things (IoT) networks. Right now, only a minority of smart device owners have fully integrated smart homes, utilizing semi-AI controllers like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to control their thermostats, garage doors, alarms and cameras, and more.

At the moment, only apps that are associated with smart home networks or security networks can really integrate with IoT systems or administrative programs. But this may change in the near future.

Many more apps may decide to focus on integration with IoT systems to make controlling different devices easier for their users. Furthermore, IoT systems provide ample data collection opportunities for advertisers and apps that use data collection as a monetization method.

However, IoT-integrated apps will need to be careful about security. IoT devices already pose significant security challenges for cybersecurity firms, as each device presents a new way for a potential hacker to get into a network if a given device isn’t adequately protected.

    Foldable Screen Support

Through 2021 and beyond, more mobile apps will be developed for foldable OLED display continuity. For example, Samsung has recently produced a foldable OLED display for new devices. Foldable displays are convenient for users, but many apps aren’t yet optimized for maintaining image continuity across separate yet foldable screens.

However, this is expected to change. For example, Google announced that Android phones will get automatic foldable support thanks to a screen continuity API adjustment. This will allow a lot of new Android apps to automatically maintain image continuity across folding screens.

While it’s unclear whether foldable mobile phones will become a big market force over 2021, it’s likely that at least some apps will provide foldable support as a selling point, especially as the app market becomes more competitive.

    AR and VR Support

Lastly, expect to see many more augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) apps or plug-ins to be developed throughout the rest of the 2020s. In truth, AR and VR technology have really only begun to spread through the commercial market.

We’ve seen a few major hits like Pokemon Go, but AR and VR tech has far more applications than just for social games. For example, many online casino apps may decide to use AR and VR tech to give at-home online casino players an in-person casino experience through linking with VR headsets or through providing AR games.

These developments will make casino apps that adopt AR and VR tech much more popular than their competitors, leading to more apps adopting these technologies as well.

Other types of apps may also use AR and VR tech, including:

    • Real estate apps – imagine being able to see a home before you visit it in person using VR tech
    • Social media apps and dating apps
    • Navigation apps, such as using AR and VR tech to route one’s way through a mall to a particular store, with their phone showcasing AR icons and special offers all the while

    Summary

Overall, the mobile app industry develops and shifts fast enough that it’s difficult to nail down any 100% certain trends for the future. But the above five trends are more than likely to continue – they’re all but guaranteed to play a major role in market forces over 2021 and the next few years.
