The Snapdragon 855 will be the flagship mobile platform of Qualcomm in the first half of next year, adopting the 7nm process, and will be built a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) for the first time.
In the Geekbench database, a Qualcomm Snapdragon product with no model number is exposed. The Geekbench list does not give us the name of the chipset, only its code name “msmnile”.
It uses 6GB of RAM and runs Android 9 Pie. Its 10,469 multi-core running results are similar to Apple’s A11 Bionic SoC. In terms of single-core scores, it still can’t match the Apple A11’s about 4,300 points, but its 3,697 points are not bad. But Apple’s upcoming A12 will certainly not sit still. The increase of Snapdragon 855 is about 54% and 20% respectively.
There is also a possibility that is not a chip for smartphones at all, but a processor that Qualcomm prepares for Windows devices. After all, ARM Windows devices equipped with the Snapdragon chip have been launched. From the exposure information, this device called Qualcomm msmnile is equipped with an 8-core CPU and a small core frequency of 1.78GHz. From the perspective of the BIOS, it is compiled later than the Snapdragon 835/845, which reflects the identity of the “poster” to a certain extent.
The Snapdragon 855 will be officially put into mass production in the fourth quarter of this year and will be commissioned by TSMC. According to the usual practice, the S10 mobile phone released by Samsung early next year will be the first to launch the Snapdragon 855, while the domestic millet is more likely to grab the first launch, but Lenovo said it will push the world’s first Snapdragon 855 mobile phone.
The NPU can be understood as a specialized AI hardware processing unit that can process and store data more efficiently through embedded neural network operations, and is good at data processing such as images and videos, and also contributes to machine learning.
