Snapdragon 712 VS Snapdragon 710: What is Difference Between

    HabibBy HabibFebruary 10, 2019

or the current Qualcomm, the days are not too good.F It didn’t take much advantage in the litigation battle with Apple, and Apple is getting farther and farther on the road of self-developed baseband processors, and the possibility of cooperation between the two on the new iPhone is getting smaller and smaller. Of course, the days are not good, but we have to continue. After all, it still has a lot of customers from China.

During the Chinese New Year, Qualcomm officially released a new product of the Snapdragon 7 series, the SNapdragon 712 mobile platform.

    Snapdragon 712 – successor of Snapdragon 710

Even from the naming point of view, the inherited relationship between Snapdragon 712 and Snapdragon 710 is self-evident.

Let’s first look at the configuration of the Snapdragon 712 in comparison :

Process technology: 10nm process, consistent with the Snapdragon 710.

CPU: 8 core Kryo360, consistent with the Snapdragon 710, but its highest frequency is 2.3GHz, while the latter is 2.2GHz.

GPU: Consistent with the Snapdragon 710, the same Adreno616 is used.

DSP: Hexagon 685 DSP, while Snapdragon 710 is Hexagon 680.

AI Capabilities: The third-generation Qualcomm AI engine is built on CPU, GPU, and DSP. Qualcomm claims that the mobile AI application of Snapdragon 712 has doubled its previous generation.

Baseband communication: With the Snapdragon X15LTE baseband, the maximum download speed can reach 800Mbps, and the maximum upload speed can reach 150Mbps, which is consistent with the Snapdragon 710.

Charging: Using Qualcomm Quickcharge 4+ technology, Snapdragon 710 is Quick charge 4.

Other aspects: support for up to six cameras, support for NFC, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB3.1Type-C.

Overall, the Snapdragon 712 Snapdragon 710 relative to the lift is not large, the whole body to enhance performance by 10%, but mainly in limited ways, such as AI capacity, charging technology, the number of supported cameras Wait. However, the configuration of the core layer of mobile processors such as CPU, GPU, and baseband communication has not been greatly improved. This is a bit like “squeezing toothpaste.”

    Market role of Snapdragon 712

As the flagship product of Qualcomm Snapdragon, Snapdragon 712 is not launched as Qualcomm to demonstrate its strong technical strength (this should be more concerned about Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 launched at the end of 2018), but with A certain market, purpose comes. Of course, in fact, the entire Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series was launched for the whole purpose.

Qualcomm announced the launch of the new Snapdragon 700 series at MWC2018. Lei Feng.com once analyzed that the Snapdragon 700 series reflects the impact of industrial development on Qualcomm’s product strategy. Even the introduction of the Snapdragon 700 series is a helpless move by Qualcomm to the smartphone industry.

In fact, with the popularity of the Snapdragon 660 processor in 2017, and AI has become an industry hotspot, Qualcomm has to adjust to the market situation. Especially in the case that the Qualcomm 8 Series flagship processor sales are not large, and China’s OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, and other manufacturers pay more and more attention to the mid-to-high-end processors, Qualcomm’s launch of the Snapdragon 700 series can be said to target these manufacturers. Demand.

Moreover, in the view of Lei Feng.com, the launch of the Snapdragon 700 series seems to reflect another trend. Under the rapid development of smart phone processors, high-performance CPU is no longer the only indicator to attract users and manufacturers, but based on actual conditions. The related processing capabilities of the application scenario (such as AI heterogeneous processing capabilities) are more valued by mobile phone manufacturers.

The Snapdragon 710 is the same, and the Snapdragon 712 is naturally the same.

It is worth noting that compared with the Snapdragon 710, the launch of the Snapdragon 712 is earlier. Qualcomm announced the birth of the Snapdragon 700 series at MWC. However, it was not until May 24, 2018 that the Snapdragon 710 was officially launched. Seven days later, on May 31, 2018, Xiaomi announced the launch on the Xiaomi 8SE mobile phone released on the same day. Snapdragon 710. Subsequently, Snapdragon 710 was adopted by OPPO, vivo and other manufacturers.

However, this year Qualcomm chose to launch the Snapdragon 712 series in February, which is arguably useful. From the market cycle point of view, Snapdragon 712 is clearly launched for the first half of the flagship mobile phone market in China’s mobile phone market, including OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, and other manufacturers are likely to launch new products equipped with Snapdragon 712 processor in the first half of the year.
