    Huawei Kirin 990 5G Vs Snapdragon 865 5G Comparison of 5G Signal Strength

    The signal strength of 5G Smartphones is affected by many factors. One of them is the distance between the device and the macro base station, which is the signal towers that we often see. The closer our phone is to the base station, the stronger the signal, and the weaker the converse. The other is whether the signal transmission between the macro base station and the phone is smooth, which will also affect the 5G signal strength.

    If the mobile phone signal is to be strong, not only it should be close to the base station, but there must not be too much interference between it, such as taller buildings, slopes in the countryside, various electromagnetic equipment in the industry, It will weaken the signal attenuation.

    Of course, there is a more important aspect, that is the performance of phone baseband chips. Different manufacturer’s chips have different signal receiving capabilities. This phenomenon may be noticed in our daily lives. The signal strength of different devices in the same place may be different.

    In order to test the 5G signal strength, take Honor 30 Pro + which is equipped with the Kirin 990 5G SOC and on the other side, we have a 5G phone which is powered by Snapdragon 865 5G chipset. And we will test these smartphones in the elevator.

    Under normal circumstances, the signal of the elevator is not ideal, because it is a closed space, and its doors are generally made of metal. If the wireless signal and the device terminal receiving the wireless signal are not strong enough, so they cannot receive the signal inside the elevator. For outdoor macro base stations, it is more difficult to penetrate the metal layer of the elevator and cover the inside in it, which is a great test of the ability of phone terminals.

    Actual scene: in the elevator

    In this scenario, the 5G signal strength of Honor 30 Pro + still shows high-end levels. The specific test results are as follows:

    RSSI = -55; RSRP = -75; RSRQ = -31; SINR = -10.0;

    The signal strength of a Snapdragon 865 mobile phone is as follows:

    RSSI = -67; RSRP = -116; RSRQ = -20; SINR = -3.0;

    Kirin 990
    Snapdragon 865

    According to the operator’s test requirements:

    • Excellent point: RSRP> -85dBm;
    • Good point: RSRP = -85 ~ -95dBm;
    • Midpoint: RSRP = -95 ~ -105dBm;
    • Handicap: RSRP = -105 ~ -115dBm;
    • Range: RSRP <-115dBm;

    RSRP is called “Reference Signal Receiving Power”, which is one of the key parameters that can represent the strength of the wireless signal and the physical layer measurement requirements in the LTE network. It is all the REs that carry the reference signal in a certain symbol (Resource particles) the average value of the received signal power.

    Overall, the larger these values, the better. From the test data, the signal strength of Honor 30 Pro + is in an excellent range. While the Snapdragon 865 phone signal strength is in a very poor range. In comparison, the Honor 30 Pro + has a very obvious advantage.

    Based on the accumulation of technology in the 5G field, the Kirin 990 5G SOC with Honor 30 Pro + gives a fully upgraded 5G communication strength. In the scenario where the 5G signal is weak, Kirin 990 5G launched a smart upstream distribution design, the upload rate was increased by 5.8 times, and the 5G upstream experience was optimized.

    In addition, the Honor 30 Pro + is equipped with HiSignal technology, which is a weak signal optimization technology. So it can be optimized for poor signal corners, such as elevators, subways, underground the shopping malls and etc. The conventional test is reduced by 30%, and the 5G dual card mobile game has a relatively low lag Competing products are 80% lower, optimized for some weak signal and high-latency use sites.

    At the same time, the Kirin 990 5G SOC supports adaptive receivers based on machine learning, enabling more accurate channel measurements and more stable 5G connections. More importantly, while achieving a stable 5G network connection, the Honor 30 Pro + also has excellent power control, which is mainly due to BWP (Bandwidth Part) technology.

    It is reported that in order to solve the power consumption problem caused by 5G, the Kirin 990 5G SOC equipped with the Honor 30 Pro + first supports BWP (Bandwidth Part) technology to achieve flexible switching of bandwidth resources under the condition of 5G large bandwidth. 5G power consumption performance is 44% better.
