Google updated the Android distribution data, showing that Android 12 is running on 13.3% of devices. Previously, Google refreshed the Android platform/API version distribution in Android Studio on May 9. Android 12 wasn’t listed in the distribution number four months ago. Before the release of Android 13, now Android 12 information appeared.
There is some evidence that Android 12 and higher had a share of around 6.6% in May, but it’s not explicitly listed in Android Studio.
In May, the chart totaled 93.3%, assuming the rest needed to reach 100% is mostly Android 12 (but may also include 12L and 13 Beta). It’s unclear why Google didn’t list Android 12 three months ago. (May’s Android Studio probably brought Android 11 and 12 together for some reason.)
By that logic, the pie for August totaled 99.8%. The remaining 0.2% is likely to be Android 12L, which has its own API level (32) given the improvements in tablets and foldable.
Meanwhile, Android 11 is now down to 27% from 28.3% in May. It remains the most commonly used version of Android today, followed by Android 10 at 22.3 percent. Android 9 Pie is 14.5%, still outpacing the latest stable version four years later. When Google publishes this data monthly, it is compiled from Android devices that visit the Play Store within 7 days of the end of the date of availability.

Google no longer provides Android distribution information on any official website, but only displays data in Android Studio. The Create New Project Wizard provides app developers with charts to see which OS versions they should target to get the most users while balancing which features can be leveraged.
