Today, HTC revealed the expected Vive XR Elite headset, which will offer augmented reality in addition to virtual reality. “VIVE XR Elite” has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $1099 (tax included). The package includes the headset itself, two motion controllers, and a charging cradle for the battery.
And its pre-orders will start on the VIVE official website worldwide from Friday, January 6th. Delivery is scheduled for the end of February.
Among the technical parameters, it is necessary to mention 4K resolution, a field of view with a width of 110° or a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The weight of the headset and battery does not exceed 625 grams – it is therefore lighter than the competing Meta Quest Pro, but heavier than the Meta Quest 2. By converting to light glasses, the weight is reduced by a considerable 240 grams.
Those who wear prescription glasses will appreciate the possibility of dioptric correction. The advantage is 6DoF tracking of the space as well as cooperation with the included controllers or capturing the movement of the wearer’s hands. The equipment includes 4 wide-angle cameras as well as a distance sensor and a color camera for augmented reality.
The battery should be able to handle 2 hours of operation, while fast 30W charging is also included. You can replace the battery on the fly. USB-C, Wi-Fi, or Wi-Fi 6E can be used to connect to a computer. However, you can also connect the glasses to a phone running on Android.
