According to the Kazakhstan media Turantimes reported that customs officials in Zetysu, Kazakhstan, seized 155.8 tons of electronic cigarettes and related accessories worth 6.1 billion tenge (about 100 million yuan) in Alakul, on the border with China.
Officers from the Customs and Economy Department of Zettisu seized a large quantity of illegal disposable e-cigarettes, vaping fluids and e-cigarette accessories during an inspection of goods and vehicles at the Alakul pass.
The customs office said that the seized goods and vehicles did not provide valid documents and did not declare the import of goods, which is in violation of the relevant regulations in the field of customs of the Eurasian Economic Union.
From March 1 to 6, 2023, a total of eight trucks entered Kazakhstan’s Arakul customs station from China.
According to the provisions of Article 154 of the Customs Code of Kazakhstan, the carrier fails to notify the customs authorities of the arrival of the goods in a timely manner and fails to submit the cargo documents, thus violating the provisions of articles 524 and 531 of the Administrative Code of Kazakhstan.
During customs checks on goods and vehicles, e-cigarettes and accessories with a total weight of 155.8 tons were found. According to the appraisal of experts, the total value of the goods reached 6.1 billion tenge (about 100 million yuan), and it is estimated that 1.9 billion tenge (about 31 million yuan) should be paid in customs duties and taxes.
According to the scene pictures provided by Zetisu Customs, the appearance packages of seized e-cigarettes are printed with the logos of brands such as HQD and INFLAVE.
The seized items have been handed over to the Zetisu Regional Economic Investigation Department for further procedural action.
