The chairman of the Youth Policy Committee of the Russian State Duma, Arzhem Meterev, said on the social platform that he has submitted a request to the prosecutor General of the Russian Federation and the Russian Federal Administration for the Protection of Consumer Rights and Interests to block websites selling e-cigarettes and hold their owners accountable.
He wrote:
“Based on the results of more than 250 Internet resources discovered by my team, I have submitted the relevant request to the Prosecutor General and the Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection Supervision Administration, as these websites continue to sell e-cigarettes to minors in violation of the law.”
Mr. Meterev added that in addition to blocking companies and agents engaged in the sale of e-cigarettes, they could face fines of up to 300,000 rubles (about 24,000 yuan).
He pointed out that the initiative aims to strengthen the supervision of e-cigarette sales to protect the health and rights of minors.
Earlier, according to the Russian Parliament newspaper, Meterev said that if the law restricting the sale of e-cigarettes is not implemented, it is necessary to rediscuss further strengthening measures, including the requirement for retail stores to obtain a license.
