Previously, this brand frequently made headlines for its high-priced phones featuring gemstones and rare leather back covers. Now, the brand is no longer in its prime. Although it declared bankruptcy, it did not completely withdraw from the market; instead, it struggled during its transition to smart phones. Over the past decade, VERTU has only launched a few diamond-encrusted phones, including a model for the Web3 sector. Its last new product was a high-end clamshell phone equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, retaining the classic leather back cover, priced at an astonishing $7,300 (IT News note: current exchange rate is approximately 49,596 yuan). Now, VERTU has launched a foldable screen phone and adopted a completely new design.
This new product, ALPHAFOLD, is VERTU’s first book-style foldable phone. It is targeted at corporate executives and high-end users, and presents the concept of “The CEO’s Phone in the AI Era”. The brand has placed its product core on artificial intelligence functions, claiming that the phone is equipped with an exclusive intelligent assistant and is named after the renowned luxury clothing and accessories brand Hermès. According to the official introduction, ALPHAFOLD has a system-level AI Agent named Hermes. Unlike the AI assistants in current mainstream phones, Hermes is designed as an intelligent entity with the capabilities of task decomposition, cross-application collaboration, long-term memory, and tool invocation. It can directly access the phone’s calendar, emails, communications, meeting records, and third-party services to complete complex task execution. For example, users can directly issue instructions such as travel and meeting collaboration through natural language, and Hermes will automatically complete itinerary planning, information synchronization, and team collaboration, rather than just remaining at the level of answering questions or generating content.
In addition to personal task management, VERTU has focused on the enterprise system connection capabilities of ALPHAFOLD. The official has proposed the “Phone-to-ERP” concept, attempting to enable the phone to directly connect to ERP, CRM, approval, inventory, financial and business analysis systems. Users can query enterprise operating data through natural language, and the AI will automatically generate analysis results and subsequent tasks.
All personal data is processed locally on the device. The enterprise office procedures strictly follow the user-defined settings and only connect with authorized applications. High-risk operations such as transfers and position assignments can only be executed after manual confirmation.
In addition to the intelligent assistant, ALPHAFOLD can also directly connect to VERTU’s exclusive concierge service. Dedicated personnel will handle customized requests, such as booking private aircraft and obtaining VIP access to high-end events.
In terms of hardware configuration, this device is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, not the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The internal screen is an 8.05-inch seamless foldable screen, while the external screen measures 6.53 inches. Both screens are made of LTPO OLED material and support a 120Hz high refresh rate. The entire device is equipped with a 6500mAh silicon-carbon battery and supports 68-watt wired fast charging.
This device features a rear camera setup consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a mediocre 5-megapixel telephoto lens.
In terms of the body design, ALPHAFOLD offers a variety of rare leather back covers for selection. The frame is made of titanium material, and the back of the frame is embossed with the exclusive “Paris Clouds” pattern. When the device is folded, the inner screen takes on a waterdrop shape to eliminate creases. The hinge is reinforced with titanium and carbon fiber, and the manufacturer claims it can withstand up to 650,000 folding uses.
The official price of VERTU ALPHAFOLD starts at 39,800 yuan. The new model will be officially launched on May 28th.
