DeepSeek V4 Official Release Expected Within Days as AI Community Anticipates Next Major Open-Source Model

Igeekphone News July 19, 2026 – Anticipation is building across the AI community as DeepSeek prepares to launch the official version of DeepSeek V4, which the company previously said would arrive in mid-July. With that timeline nearing its end, industry observers expect an announcement to come imminently.

The upcoming release has become one of the most closely watched events in the open-source AI ecosystem, particularly following the recent debut of several competing large language models.

Competition in the Open-Source AI Race

In recent days, much of the AI industry’s attention has focused on the launch of Kimi K3, an open-source model reportedly built with 2.8 trillion parameters, making it one of the largest publicly disclosed AI models to date.

Meanwhile, the parameter counts of several leading proprietary models—including OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 and Anthropic’s Claude (referred to in some reports as “Fable 5”)—have not been officially disclosed. Industry estimates for next-generation frontier models generally place them in the multi-trillion-parameter range.

While model size remains a headline metric, developers are increasingly focused on a combination of performance, inference efficiency, and operating cost.

Cost Efficiency Remains DeepSeek’s Biggest Advantage

One of DeepSeek’s strongest competitive advantages has consistently been affordability.

Although DeepSeek has previously confirmed that API pricing may increase during periods of exceptionally high demand, its services are still expected to remain significantly less expensive than many leading commercial AI platforms.

According to online API pricing trackers cited by industry observers, DeepSeek V4’s API pricing could remain dozens of times lower than that of some leading proprietary models, depending on usage scenarios and caching efficiency.

Developers have also praised DeepSeek’s flexible API model, which charges based on actual usage rather than requiring larger prepaid subscription packages.

    Performance Is the Bigger Question

While pricing has attracted attention, the AI community is primarily focused on whether the official release will substantially improve performance over the earlier preview versions.

The DeepSeek V4 preview was already regarded by many developers as one of the strongest open-source language models available. However, some benchmark comparisons suggested that its coding abilities still lagged behind the very best proprietary systems.

Since then, the competitive landscape has evolved rapidly, with nearly every major AI developer releasing updated models over the past several months.

    Early Demonstrations Fuel Expectations

Unofficial demonstrations circulating online—particularly on the Chinese video platform Bilibili—have generated significant excitement.

Many of these demonstrations showcase DeepSeek V4 generating interactive game content or completing complex creative tasks from simple natural-language prompts, areas widely viewed as strong indicators of advanced reasoning and planning capabilities.

If representative of the final release, these demonstrations suggest that DeepSeek V4 could narrow the gap with today’s leading proprietary AI models across several practical applications.

However, because these demonstrations originate from unofficial testing channels, their results should be viewed with appropriate caution until independent evaluations become available after launch.

    Rumors and Speculation Continue

As expectations have grown, so too have online rumors.

Some commentators have speculated that impressive demonstration results might be explained by routing certain requests to external frontier models rather than relying solely on DeepSeek’s own technology.

To date, however, no credible evidence has been presented to support these claims.

Many beta testers have published complete interaction logs or full demonstration videos, making independent verification easier and reducing the likelihood of hidden model substitution.

Industry analysts also note that deliberately misrepresenting a model’s capabilities would carry substantial reputational risks for any AI developer, particularly in today’s highly competitive market.

    China’s Growing Open-Source AI Momentum

The discussion surrounding DeepSeek V4 reflects a broader trend in China’s rapidly expanding AI ecosystem.

Over the past year, Chinese companies have accelerated investment in large language models, producing increasingly competitive open-source alternatives that are gaining attention from developers worldwide.

Recent releases such as Kimi K3 have sparked debate across international AI communities, with supporters highlighting the rapid progress of Chinese open-source models while critics question how these systems compare with leading U.S. frontier models.

Such debates have become increasingly common as AI development grows more global and competition intensifies.

    Looking Ahead

With the expected launch now just days away, DeepSeek V4 is poised to become one of the most significant open-source AI releases of 2026.

Whether it ultimately matches the high expectations generated by early demonstrations will depend on independent benchmark testing after release. Regardless of the outcome, the model is expected to further intensify competition in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, where performance, accessibility, and cost efficiency are becoming just as important as raw model scale.
