Insta360 has introduced a new long-telephoto package for the Luna Ultra, targeting concertgoers and creators who want to capture performers from a distance. The new Luna Ultra Concert Super-Telephoto Kit is priced at 4,358 yuan in China and brings major upgrades to both long-range shooting and portrait capture.
With a new teleconverter, the camera can reach up to 22.5x zoom and a 450mm equivalent focal length, giving it the reach needed to capture performers from seats far away from the stage.
The combination of long-range zoom and a compact gimbal design makes the Luna Ultra particularly suitable for concert and event photography.
Luna Ultra Reaches 22.5x Zoom and 450mm
The biggest upgrade is the newly developed teleconverter, which significantly extends the Luna Ultra’s reach.
With the accessory attached, the camera can achieve up to 22.5x magnification and a 450mm-equivalent focal length. This allows users in audience areas to frame performers more closely and capture facial expressions, movements, and interactions that would otherwise be difficult to record from a distance.
The combination of a long telephoto range and the Luna Ultra’s compact gimbal-style body gives the camera a portable setup for concerts and other live performances.
The camera’s built-in optical reach has also been increased from 12x to 15x, equivalent to approximately 300mm. At zoom levels above 9x, an AI-powered image enhancement system automatically activates to improve image clarity.
In demanding environments such as concerts and LiveHouse venues, where strong stage lighting is mixed with dark backgrounds, the system is designed to improve details such as facial contours and clothing textures while reducing noise and chromatic aberration.
New Stage Mode for Concert Photography
The Luna Ultra now includes a dedicated Stage Mode designed specifically for live performances.
Concert lighting can create challenging exposure, focusing, and color conditions, particularly when performers move between bright spotlights and darker areas. Stage Mode optimizes these elements to reduce blown-out faces and unwanted foreground interference while maintaining the atmosphere of the stage.
The camera also uses a dedicated face-filtering algorithm to reduce the effect of objects such as glow sticks and signs held by people in front of the camera. By adjusting focusing sensitivity, the system can help keep the performer as the primary focus instead of accidentally locking onto nearby objects.
A specialized stage white-balance and color strategy is also designed to handle highly saturated red, blue, and green lighting, helping preserve more natural skin tones while maintaining the color of the stage environment.
Leica Summicron Imaging and AI Processing
The Luna Ultra uses a dual Leica Summicron imaging system together with a three-chip AI architecture to support image processing.
Its hardware includes a 4nm Qualcomm main processor working alongside two dedicated imaging chips. The system also applies AI Remosaic technology to the telephoto imaging pipeline to improve detail in long-distance shots.
For low-light recording, the camera supports 4K video recording at 60fps in night scenes, providing an option for recording performances and other events in darker environments.
4K Vertical Video and Portrait Features
The latest update also expands the Luna Ultra’s portrait capabilities with 4K high-resolution vertical video.
Users can shoot travel vlogs, everyday moments, and close-up portraits directly in a vertical format designed for smartphone viewing and social media sharing. Vertical photo capture has also been added, allowing the same camera to handle both portrait photos and vertical video.
The camera can be used for a variety of compositions, from full-body travel portraits and street photography to closer facial shots. Users can switch to vertical framing according to the scene without needing a separate device.
In addition, the camera introduces Cinematic Live Photos and Beauty Live Photos. The former emphasizes visual style and atmosphere, while the latter combines moving-image capture with beauty-enhancement effects.
These modes are designed to preserve moments such as a quick glance during a trip or a spontaneous smile with friends as dynamic images rather than conventional still photographs.
AI Tracking for Moving Performers
Concert shooting often involves fast-moving performers, low light, high zoom levels, and frequent obstructions. To address these conditions, Insta360 says the Luna Ultra’s subject-recognition and tracking models were trained using real concert footage.
The system is designed to improve subject detection, tracking, and focus recovery when recording performers at high magnification or in dim environments.
A three-axis mechanical gimbal works alongside the tracking system to stabilize the camera while performers move across the stage or perform fast choreography. This can reduce the need for users to constantly adjust the framing manually.
Shoot Photos While Recording Video
The new Shoot-and-Record feature allows users to capture a Live Photo while continuing to record video.
Users do not need to stop the video or switch shooting modes. This can be useful for moments such as an artist’s final pose, fireworks during a performance, or interactions between performers and the audience.
The complete moment can remain in the video while a separate dynamic photo is saved for easier viewing and sharing.
Two Audio Modes for Concert Recording
The Luna Ultra also offers different audio recording options for live events.
Its Stage Audio Mode uses beamforming technology to prioritize sound coming from the stage while reducing the influence of nearby audience noise. This mode is designed for users who want vocals and musical instruments to remain more prominent in their recordings.
Alternatively, Full-Scene Audio Mode captures both the performance and surrounding environmental sound. This makes it possible to preserve audience singing, cheering, applause, and the overall atmosphere of the venue.
Users can therefore select the recording mode based on whether they want to focus primarily on the performance or capture the complete concert environment.
Easier Exposure and Zoom Controls
The updated Luna Ultra adds a more accessible exposure compensation (EV) shortcut, allowing users to quickly adjust image brightness as stage lighting changes.
A horizontal zoom slider also makes it easier to move between different compositions. Users can quickly switch from a wide view of the entire stage to a tighter performer close-up by sliding their finger across the control.
The camera also introduces swipe-to-select tracking. From the main preview screen, users can swipe over a subject to select it and activate intelligent tracking directly.
Detachable Remote Display for Flexible Shooting
The Luna Ultra supports a detachable image-transmission remote display, allowing the main camera and screen to operate separately.
This setup provides greater flexibility when shooting from different positions. Users can monitor the framing, control the camera, and follow moving subjects without necessarily keeping the main unit and display together.
