iQOO has officially unveiled the iQOO Neo12, a performance-focused smartphone designed for mobile gamers and users who want a high-refresh-rate display, powerful hardware, and long battery life. Announced on October 28, the new model combines Qualcomm’s fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with a dedicated Q3 gaming chip, an active cooling fan, and a 2K display supporting a refresh rate of up to 185Hz.
The iQOO Neo12 is available in five memory and storage configurations, ranging from 12GB RAM with 256GB storage to 16GB RAM with 1TB storage. With launch discounts and applicable platform and government subsidies in China, its reported starting price is 3,149 yuan.
iQOO Neo12 Design: Metal Frame and Three Color Options
The iQOO Neo12 adopts a square camera module on the rear and a metal middle frame, giving the phone a distinctive, performance-oriented appearance. Buyers can choose from three color options: Zhengfeng, Shadow Black, and Frost Blade Blue.
The Zhengfeng edition stands out because it was jointly designed by iQOO and the China Academy of Art, bringing a more distinctive visual identity to the lineup.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Dedicated Q3 Gaming Chip
Performance is a major focus of the iQOO Neo12. The phone combines Qualcomm’s fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with iQOO’s self-developed Q3 gaming chip, creating a dual-chip platform intended to improve gaming performance and graphics processing.
The device also introduces the latest generation of iQOO’s Monster Super Core Engine, designed to coordinate system resources and maintain responsive performance under demanding workloads.
The dedicated Q3 chip supports several gaming enhancements, including full-scene ray tracing, simultaneous super-resolution and frame interpolation, gaming filters, and visual effects optimization. These features aim to improve image quality and motion smoothness without relying entirely on the main processor.
First 2K 185Hz Display Based on Fourth-Generation pTSF Technology
One of the biggest upgrades is the iQOO Neo12’s display. According to the launch information, the phone is the first in the industry to feature a 2K 185Hz display built on fourth-generation pTSF technology.
The panel uses new Sky Mirror light-emitting material and supports a refresh rate of up to 185Hz. Its reported full-screen peak brightness reaches 2,200 nits, making it suitable for gaming, video playback, and other visually demanding tasks.
Compared with the previous generation of light-emitting material, the new technology is claimed to deliver:
- 8% higher luminous efficiency
- 10% higher global peak brightness
- 6.5% lower display power consumption
- 50% longer display service life
The screen also supports iQOO’s proprietary XDR dynamic-range enhancement, Circular Polarization Display 2.0, and a 1-nit sleep display mode. Together, these features are designed to balance visual quality, power efficiency, and more comfortable viewing in low-light environments.
2K Super Resolution and 185FPS Gaming Support
The iQOO Neo12 is built to take advantage of its high-refresh-rate panel. It debuts a combination of 2K super-resolution and 185FPS frame enhancement technology, while more than 50 games are reported to support native operation at up to 185 frames per second. The phone will also be among the first devices to support selected games at native 2K resolution.
For more precise control, iQOO has equipped the Neo12 with the same Q-Flex control technology found in the iQOO 16, alongside a dedicated high-sensitivity touch chip.
The touch system supports a peak instantaneous sampling rate of 5,000Hz and a 500Hz multi-finger touch sampling rate. These specifications are intended to help the phone register rapid inputs more quickly, particularly in competitive shooters and other fast-paced games.
Actual frame rates and touch responsiveness will vary depending on the game, software version, and operating conditions.
Active Cooling Fan Arrives in the Neo Series
Sustained performance is another important part of the iQOO Neo12’s design. For the first time in the Neo series, iQOO has introduced an active cooling fan, integrated into its new Ice Dome air-cooling system.
The cooling assembly contains 59 large fan blades and supports three intelligent speed settings. By actively moving air through the cooling system, the fan is designed to help control temperatures during extended gaming sessions.
The phone also features an 8.2K 3D Ice Dome VC vapor chamber. iQOO describes it as the largest vapor chamber ever used in the Neo series, with heat-dissipation performance reportedly improved by 15% compared with the Neo11.
The combination of active airflow and a larger vapor chamber is intended to reduce heat buildup and help the processor maintain more consistent performance during demanding games and other intensive tasks.
9,000mAh Battery With 100W Fast Charging
Despite its gaming-focused hardware, the iQOO Neo12 also places a strong emphasis on battery capacity. It packs a 9,000mAh Blue Ocean battery using fifth-generation silicon-anode technology, with a reported energy density of 916Wh/L.
For charging, the phone supports 100W wired fast charging. It also includes Global Direct Power Supply 2.0, a feature designed to provide power more directly to the system in supported usage scenarios.
The large battery should appeal to users who spend long periods gaming, streaming video, or using demanding applications. Real-world endurance will depend on screen brightness, refresh rate, network conditions, and gaming workloads.
50MP Main Camera, Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor and Stereo Speakers
Although gaming is the main selling point, the iQOO Neo12 includes several additional hardware features. Its rear camera system includes a 50MP main camera for everyday photography.
The phone also features 3D ultrasonic fingerprint recognition for biometric unlocking and symmetrical dual stereo speakers with the Battle Drum Master Pro audio system. These additions round out the device as a multimedia smartphone rather than a gaming-only handset.
iQOO Neo12 Price and Storage Options
The iQOO Neo12 launches in five configurations:
| Configuration | Storage |
|---|---|
| 12GB RAM | 256GB |
| 16GB RAM | 256GB |
| 12GB RAM | 512GB |
| 16GB RAM | 512GB |
| 16GB RAM | 1TB |
The first-sale promotion includes a 200-yuan discount. After eligible platform discounts and Chinese government subsidies, the reported starting price is 3,149 yuan. This is a promotional price rather than necessarily the standard retail price, and eligibility may depend on the buyer and sales channel.
Is the iQOO Neo12 Worth Watching?
iQOO Neo12 brings together several features aimed directly at demanding mobile gamers: a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, a dedicated Q3 gaming chip, a 2K 185Hz display, high touch-sampling rates, and an active cooling fan. Its 9,000mAh battery and 100W charging support also target users who want long sessions without frequent charging breaks.
The biggest question will be how these specifications translate into sustained performance, battery endurance, and everyday comfort in independent testing. If the claimed display and cooling improvements hold up in real-world use, the iQOO Neo12 could become a compelling option for gamers looking for a high-performance smartphone.
