Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is the first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 636 chipset. Like the Snapdragon 660 that has been built to power upper mid-range smartphones, the SD 636 is also a 14nm chipset that include eight cores of Kryo 260 arranged in four + four cluster that respectively clock at 1.8 GHz and 1.6 GHz. Benchmarks reveal that the performance of the Snapdragon 636 is even better than Snapdragon 820 that powered flagship phones from 2016.
In order to gauge the prowess of Snapdragon 636, Android Central compared it with other mid-range Xiaomi phones fueled by different chipsets on various benchmarking platform such as AnTuTu, BaseMark and Chrome. The publication included smartphones like Redmi Note 5 Pro powered by SD636, Redmi Note 5 fueled by SD625, Redmi Note 3 that works on SD650, Mi Note 3 running on SD660, Mi 5 with SD820, Mi 5S with SD821 and Mi 6 fueled by the highly potent SD835.
Benchmarks show that the performance of Redmi Note 5 Pro is superior than the Redmi Note 5 that was launched alongside It. It means that it can deliver better performance than Snapdragon 625 that has powered various mid-range phones from Xiaomi. In some benchmarks, the performance of SD636 is on par or better than SD820. The SD636 is said to be an underclocked edition of the SD660. Fresh rumors suggest that the upcoming Mi Max 3 will be also fueled by SD636.
