A selection of the best non-specialist phones for gaming

Mobile gaming is booming. In fact, alongside finding a smartphone with a top camera and making sure a particular device’s design is slick, people are purchasing a phone that is capable of housing popular modern-day games, such as Pokemon Go and PUBG Mobile.

While dedicated gaming features are a necessity for some, other smartphone users want a device that can deliver in other areas also. If you’re an avid mobile gamer, though, then devices that have been specifically designed for gaming, like the Black Shark 5 Pro, will understandably appeal. They aren’t the only options, though. In fact, for many, gaming phones aren’t required, especially as they hinder other areas of mobile phone use, perhaps around design or functionality. As such, gaming phones aren’t necessarily suitable for casual gamers. If you’re a more part-time smartphone gamer, then a non-gaming phone that will cover all bases is probably your best bet. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best non-gaming phones on the market right now.

    OnePlus 10 Pro

A go-to option for those who want a multi-purpose device, the OnePlus 10 Pro boasts a selection of features that make it ideal for gaming. Notable specs that make it suitable for gaming include its 6.7-inch 2K AMOLED screen, its mightily impressive and hugely powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, and its valuable 80W charging, which is accessible depending on where you live. Overall, the OnePlus 10 Pro is a great all-rounder.

    Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

As far as ‘regular’ smartphones go, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is one of the best phones for gaming around. Whether you’re partial to a console-quality release, such as Call of Duty Mobile, or you’re playing blackjack games online, like Buster Blackjack, this particular device has the power and performance to host it. While its gorgeous 6.8-inch AMOLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate is impressive, the device’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor highlights just how much power this non-gaming phone offers. The only downside, though, is the phone’s rather weak battery, so purchasing a battery pack might be worthwhile for any marathon gaming sessions.

    Motorola Edge Plus

While some features away from gaming let the Motorola Edge Plus down, like the absence of a telephoto lens, it does offer a range of positives when it comes to gaming. Motorola’s latest flagship model offers mobile gamers with an immaculate 144Hz refresh rate, up to 12GB RAM, and the required power for most gamers. The phone’s battery life isn’t the best, though.

    iPhone 13 Pro Max

In the past, Apple’s iPhone products haven’t always been associated with gaming. Now, though, thanks to devices like the iPhone 13 Pro Max, that theory seems to be a thing of the past. A truly faultless phone, the iPhone 13 Pro Max is capable of housing any hit releases thanks to its impressive power, its great 6.7-inch 1284 x 2778 screen, and a 120Hz refresh rate that compliments any gaming experience. The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a reliable battery also, which is always a nice additional bonus.

    Oppo Find X5 Pro

If you’re a happy snapper who is regularly uploading pictures onto social media, then the Oppo Find X5 Pro is a solid option. For gaming, the phone also stacks up thanks to its 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Additionally, this popular device offers excellent performance due to its tried and tested Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. While the Oppo Find X5 Pro isn’t faultless, it’s still a fantastic option for people who want a smartphone that is ideal for gaming.
