Igeekphone 25 February: Over the past year, there have been various rumors about whether the iPhone 18 Pro series would continue to have the Dynamic Island feature or switch to under-screen Face ID with a single hole camera and remove the Dynamic Island. The latest information indicates that the Dynamic Island will not be eliminated for now. According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will adopt a smaller Dynamic Island.
Apart from Bloomberg, several other well-known whistleblowers also stated that Apple would reduce the size of the “Liquid Island” but would not completely remove it.
Last year we also heard similar news that the “Dynamic Island” on iPhone 17 Pro would be shrunk. However, when the phone was finally released, the size of the Dynamic Island remained unchanged. From the end of 2025 to the beginning of 2026, there was a significant increase in related revelations about the Dynamic Island. Usually, a few months before the release of a new iPhone, if a large number of rumors from different sources all point to the same functional change, these messages tend to be more accurate.

Igeekphone has noticed that most of the rumors about the iPhone 18 Pro featuring under-screen Face ID and eliminating the notch design have been circulating since early 2025. This implies that either Apple once considered implementing this feature for the 18 Pro series but ultimately decided against it, or these rumors are merely speculations. It’s also possible that there is a misunderstanding regarding which components will be placed under the screen and which ones won’t.
It is claimed that in order to achieve a smaller “Smart Island”, Apple plans to move the Face ID dot light sensing component to beneath the screen, and will also adopt a new camera miniaturization technology to reduce the size of the front camera. However, the front camera, Face ID dot projector and infrared camera will still be integrated within the Smart Island and will not adopt the screen-under scheme.
Apple’s ultimate goal is to create an iPhone with a completely glass front and no openings at all. This design is expected to be achieved in 2027 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone’s launch, but the iPhone 18 Pro series released in the autumn of 2026 will not be able to achieve this.
