Today, Apple released a new update for iOS 16, which also requires eligible iPhone users to upgrade.
iOS 16.3.1 comes just over two weeks after iOS 16.3, an update that adds a security key for Apple ID and support for the new HomePod.
According to Apple’s release notes, the iOS 16.3.1 update includes multiple bug fixes that address iCloud and Siri requests to find me, in addition to adding more crash detection optimizations.
The update provides important bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone, including:
If the application is using iCloud, the iCloud Settings may not respond or display correctly
Finding my Siri request might not work
Optimized crash detection for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models
The iCloud Settings fix may have resolved an issue that could have prevented some people from switching to automatic iCloud backup on their iphones and ipads, an issue that some users have been experiencing since iOS 16.3 was introduced.
Collision detection may have been optimized to address ongoing problems with collision detection reported by ski resorts and amusement parks. At ski resorts in particular, emergency responders have been receiving multiple reports of incidents, which depletes rescue resources needed for actual emergencies. Apple has optimized crash detection several times in an attempt to fix the problem.

iOS 16.3.1 will likely be followed by iOS 16.4, and we expect Apple to release this update in the near future, perhaps as soon as this week.
