- As you can probably imagine, the Bellagio was an expensive project and it’s reported that it cost to the tune of $1.6 billion to design and build. At the time, the Bellagio was the most expensive hotel in the world and the Spa Tower of Bellagio didn’t come cheap, either. In December 2004, the tower was opened at a cost of $375 million and the renovations that came in 2015 cost $165 million.
- The Bellagio was built on the old site of the demolished Dunes Hotel and Casino and is owned by MGM Resorts, who are a global hospitality and entertainment company. They operate resorts in Detroit, Mississippi, Maryland, New Jersey and Vegas. Other than the Bellagio, MGM are mainly renowned for operating Mandalay Bay, The Mirage and the MGM Grand.
- The Bellagio is based and inspired by the Lake Como town of Bellagio in Italy, and the resort beautifully captures the elegance and beauty of the Italian destination. Those who have been to both can easily visualise the similarities that the Bellagio resort has to offer. The most prominent feature is the lake itself, which is set between the building and the Strip.
- Poker fanatics will be more than aware of the famous Bobby’s Room the Bellagio offers, which is known for the highest limit action across the globe. The room was named after World Series champion Bobby Baldwin, who won the tournament in 1978. It’s suggested that Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Eli Elezra and Barry Greenstein are regulars there.
- As with any world-famous game the amount of game space is vital, and the Bellagio boasts square footage of 159,760 so there’s ample room for all of the necessities. Currently, there are 2,400 machines and 15 different table games to play. Also, many tournaments are often held at the Bellagio including events on the WSOP circuit.
- The Bellagio found worldwide fame when it provided the setting for “Ocean’s Eleven”, a 2001 box-office hit starring George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.
