Igeekphone January 23 news, science and technology media Android Authority published a blog post on January 21, reporting that Google plans to introduce a new lock screen notification management function in the Android 16 system, supporting users to fold notifications into a condensed list, improving the cleanliness of the lock screen interface and the readability of important information.
According to the news, Google plans to allow users to select “compact” or “full list” two types of notifications in Android 16. “Compact” mode collapses the notification and expands it when clicked to see details, while “Full List” mode maintains the current display.
The source said that in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1, Google introduced a hidden feature called “lock screen notification minimalism” (lock screen notification minimalism mode), which folds the notification into a pill and displays it under the clock.
In Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3, the “Lock Screen Notification Minimalist mode” has been removed and replaced with a new “Compact” notification layout option, located in the “Lock Screen Notification” setting in the Settings app.
The Lock Screen Notification dialog, which previously only allowed users to choose to show all, hide all, or show only sensitive content, has been expanded to include pages with more options.
While these new options in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3 are currently hidden, they are expected to debut in the official version of Android 16.
Given that Beta 3 is the final beta of Android 15 QPR2, these features are unlikely to appear in a stable version of Android 15 QPR2.
A large number of notifications can easily make the lock screen look cluttered, not only blocking the wallpaper, but also making it difficult to find important information. Android 16’s compact notification and hiding options effectively solve this problem, allowing users to customize the display of lock screen notifications, improving the user experience.
In addition, Android added “Hide Read notifications” and “Hide Silent notifications” options to automatically hide viewed notifications and silent notifications, including conversation messages, to further reduce the interference of lock screen interface information.
