A Step-by-Step Tutorial on Transferring Music from iTunes to Android Devices

Did you know that in 2018 1.56 billion smartphones were sold?  Phones are now far more than simple communication devices. they are now HD cameras and media centers.

If you have recently purchased an android phone but have all your music files in iTunes on an Apple device, what can you do?

Check out our guide to the easiest way to transfer files from iTunes to android.

    1. Manually Copy your Music Files

The simplest way to transfer your music files from iTunes to an Android device is by USB cable. You can simply copy and paste the files from their location on each memory drive.

This may take a long time depending on how many files you have and the method you are using. There are many types of modern USB cable types available. Or if this will take too long, you can use many other Android file transfer for Mac methods.

If you choose to use a cable, be aware that it is easy to lose metadata and track data from iTunes. This means that when you play the files on your android device, the artwork and other data may not appear.  However, this is still the easiest way to transfer the files.

    Here are the steps:

    1. Create a new folder on your computer’s desktop.
    2. Navigate to your iTunes files location and copy the music files you wish to transfer
    3. Paste the music into the folder on your desktop
    4. Connect your Android phone to your computer via USB
    5. Select the “Transfer files via USB” option that will appear on your phone’s screen.
    6. Copy and paste the folder on your desktop to the appropriate location on your phone’s storage.
    7. Upload your Files to Google Play Music

If you do not really need to move your music files from iTunes, you may be able to play them from your Android phone without transferring them.

Enter Google Play Music. The cloud-based media playing program that, along with Spotify, has revolutionized how people listen to music. If you do not want to go to the trouble of moving your files, you can upload them to upload to Google Music and stream them directly from there on any android device.

True, likely any music streaming service, Google Music does have its limitations. You can upload a maximum of 50,000 songs. And unless you have a constant internet connection you will need to pin/download the music to play it offline.

However, uploading it to Google Music does mean it is available immediately and without increasing your storage footprint.

    Here are the steps:

    1. Download Google Play Music Manager to your computer and install it.
    2. During the setup process, there will be an option to upload music to Google Play.
    3. Select your iTunes folder and wait while it is uploaded.
    4. After a few minutes, depending on the number of files, you will be able to enjoy your music on an android device.
    5. Stream iTunes with Apple Music

If connecting cables and manually transferring files seems too complicated. but also, uploading everything to a new application that you have not used before is also undesirable, there is a simple third option.

You can download and use the Apple music application on your Android phone. You may have searched for an iTunes app in the Google Play Store and not found one. This is because the functionality to stream your iTunes files is available only through Apple Music.

If you are an iTunes user, you may already have an account with Apple Music. you can stream 50 million songs. However, using Apple Music to play your files is not free. You will need to fork out the monthly subscription fee.

    Here are the steps:

    1. Open iTunes on your computer and find Preferences.
    2. In Preferences open the option: “Turn on iCloud Music Library” (note this option will only be available after you have opened an Apple Music Account)
    3. Next on your Android device, download the Apple Music Application.
    4. Sign in using your Apple ID. If you are signed in to the same account, you should immediately see all your iTunes files waiting to be streamed.
    5. Use a Third-Party Application.

If you have decided to transfer the music files from iTunes to your Android device, but do not want to use cables, you may be able to use a third-party application. these are similar to programs used to transfer images files from Apple to Android devices.

Sometimes these applications come as part of your phone’s own software. This is true in the case of Samsung Switch, a powerful program that can transfer different types of data from Apple to Android environments.

In other cases, an application such as FileTransfer can transfer your music files. However, this has a limitation of only being able to transfer 5mb at a single time. If you have a large amount of file to copy this could take a very long time indeed!

iTunes to Android and Much More

The rivalry between Apple and Android has led to some great innovations and technologies. However, sometimes crossing from one side of the divide to the other is not easy.

Take your music files from iTunes to Android is tricky but by no means difficult. If you would like to learn more about your phone and how to get the best out of it, we are here to help.
