After several teasers, Meizu finally announced the launch of the new Meizu 17 Series Smartphones. The specifications for both are very similar, but the Pro model brings a better camera set, faster RAM, and support for wireless charging battery.
The look of the devices is also very similar, but the Meizu 17 Pro comes with a ceramic back. The two are also the company’s first devices with 5G connectivity.
The Meizu 17 Series comes with a simple punch-hole design upfront. The two phones feature an advanced CoF packaging technology which increases the screen to body ratio by limiting the lower bezel to just 3.3mm.
Both devices have a 6.6 ”Super AMOLED screen, with 90 Hz, 19.5: 9 format, and HDR 10+. This screen also hides the fingerprint reader and accommodates the cutout for the front camera. The sound system has two speakers.
On the hardware, smartphones bring the Snapdragon 865 chip and 128GB and 256GB storage options, UFS 3.1 type. The 17 Pro has 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, while the 17 has 8GB LPDDR4X. The battery has 4500mAh, with support for 30 W fast charging. The Pro model also supports 27 W wire charging. The devices leave the factory with the Flyme 8.1 interface, running on top of Android 10.
Moving to the rear cameras, the rear camera set of both includes the 64MP main with the Sony IMX686 sensor. The Meizu 17 Pro also features an 8MP telephoto with 8x “lossless” zoom, a 32MP ultrawide, and a 3D ToF with Samsung S5K3 sensor, which will be used to capture depth data and augmented reality content. Meizu 17 “normal” brings a 12MP wide, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 5MP macro.
Pricing and Availability
Available in green, gray, and white, the Meizu 17 with 8GB / 128GB is priced at $252. While the version with 8GB / 256GB goes for $565. The Meizu 17 Pro with 8GB / 128GB is priced at $605 and the version with 12GB / 256GB costs $665 in mint green and white. The devices are on sale in China only, when sales in physical stores start on May 11.
