Xiaomi is already aware of the issue and has confirmed through its engineers that there is a temporary fix to resolve the issue. It requires users to disable Google Framework and Google Mobile Services. For users with Chinese variant of Xiaomi phones that are facing these issues, they are advised to even remove GMS apps like Gmail, Google Search and Play Store.

The official forum has error logs of the issue. It shows that Google Mobile Services was sending out very high number of alerts that caused the devices to lose battery power and it also affected apps like alarm and WeChat.
