Moving to Seattle: the Pacific Northwest’s Hidden Gem

Brady CottonBy Brady CottonSeptember 9, 2021

Its thriving economy, progressive culture, and electrifying nightlife make it a city worth exploring. Due to the lush even-green forests surrounding much of the city, it has been called the “Emerald City.”

The Pacific Northwest begins in Seattle. Because of its cultural diversity and ability to offer many outdoor recreation activities, it is a great destination for relocating.

This article will answer some questions that might be on your mind before moving to Seattle if you don’t know much about it.

Is Seattle a good place to live?

Washington and the Pacific Northwest rely heavily on Seattle as a business and entertainment hub. Seattle is one of the largest cities in North America.

There are many companies in Seattle. Microsoft, Amazon.com, and Starbucks Coffee Company are some of these companies. Besides those 50 Fortune 500 corporations, there are also numerous international companies in Seattle.

Established in 1852 during the Klondike gold rush, Seattle is the second-oldest city in the United States. It has been a technology hub since 1916 when Boeing began as Seattle’s biggest aerospace company.

Both Microsoft and Amazon have established their major tech companies here, with Amazon building its first bricks-and-mortar store amidst the sea to serve its consumer base better. The number of jobs being created daily makes now the perfect time to move.

Even though Seattleites are avid coffee drinkers, there’s so much more to the city than that. Houseboats are available to rent in Seattle, where you can attend concerts and live on the water. Seattle can also be an interesting place to live for those who don’t want to work in tech.

Seattle is considered to be one of the nation’s top economic hubs by US residents. Only New York City is expected to grow faster, and its population is growing exponentially.

Therefore, if you consider moving, you will be pleased with all the options available to you. Getting the best Seattle moving services is important so you can be able to feel comfortable right away.

    Seattle has no income tax

Living in Seattle is one of the few places in the country without an income tax, so you won’t have to worry about living costs.

As a result of Washington’s high sales taxes – 10% when combined with other state taxes – it can be more expensive than most cities.

A city with three seasons, Seattle

Seattle is famous for its wet fall, mini-spring, and summer. Summers are cool and moist, while winters are cold and dry.

Be prepared for rain by wearing rain boots and layered clothing.

    Football is Seattle’s sport

It is impossible to avoid being a football fan in Seattle. Besides the nationally acclaimed Seahawks, Seattle is home to the Washington Huskies, a state rival.

In Seattle’s iconic sports capital, nothing exemplifies rabid pride like their fierce love for the athletes who compete day in and day out at CenturyLink Field and UW Stadium, as well as just celebrating at The 12th Man Bar downtown.

There’s no place like Seattle for bikers

Whenever possible, newcomers to Seattle should buy bicycles. There are many bike trails in the city, and one of them is around 20 miles long.

It’s a Hilly Town in Seattle

Those who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and biking will find Seattle an attractive option because of the city’s hills—stretching your legs before the workout will help you get the best results.

The city has plenty of options for you to choose from, including its many attractions and amenities.

There are many huge hills in Seattle, and the locals climb them all – not just for tourists.

Hiking in the city is possible

Among the many scenic hikes and green spaces in Seattle, there are many scenic hikes. Over 500 acres of hiking trails and breathtaking views await you at Discovery Park, the largest of these green spaces.

You can see the mountains from the park and spend the day enjoying a great view not far from Downtown.

    Coffee is Seattle’s biggest draw

Seattle is a great destination for coffee lovers who don’t mind a bit of a change of scenery. Numerous independent coffee shops are also located in the city, as well as iconic ones like Starbucks.

If you are looking for one of Seattle’s best coffees, Ballard Coffee Works is a great place to visit.

The rotating menu at All City Coffee includes espresso, drip coffee, cold brew, and nitro taps, as well as an array of brewing methods.

Capitol Hill’s Herkimer Coffee, right on the other side of Fremont, buys high-quality coffee from all over the world and doesn’t add any artificial flavors or sugars.

    Seattle welcomes dogs

Since Seattle is known for its dog lovers, people will ask you about your pets after moving to the city. Although not all apartments allow pets, those that do can make it easier for you.

Despite rent prices that are reasonable and pet-friendly apartment complexes that aren’t pet-friendly, dog parks and daycare centers are still readily available for pet owners.

There’s no big deal about rain

It is not what you would expect when there is a downpour in Seattle, where it usually rains a lot. In Seattle, rainfall is less than in Boston, Chicago, and New York City.

Even though there are more days with light rain followed by drizzle or mist, you will seldom need umbrellas.

    Tech is booming in Seattle

Technology is booming in Seattle, with companies hiring in the field in large numbers.

The companies listed here employ tens of thousands of Seattle residents, so if you’re interested in finding a career there or even just exploring the possibilities, be sure to visit some campuses.

Seattle is a mecca for artists

Seattle’s artistic legacy is a major part of the city’s culture, and visitors should not miss the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, one of the country’s most prestigious orchestras.

The music of bands like Nirvana and grunge rock is also a must for many visitors.

In addition to Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, which features jazz musicians worldwide, Pacific Northwest Ballet Theatre presents ballet performances.

Public transit: how to get around

As you travel around the city of Seattle, your transportation needs are most likely met by drivers from King County Metro. Public transportation is the most convenient option due to traffic restrictions, as buses are easy to access.

Visit Portland and neighboring cities using Seattle’s public transportation if you want to get out of Washington.

For about $30-$45 round trip, you can take the Greyhound Train or Bolt Bus from Seattle to Oregon.

    Ready to move?

Moving to Seattle may be a good idea for you if the above description describes your ideal lifestyle. There is a wide variety of activities and attractions available in the city to suit the needs of any traveler.

We can guide you through the moving process if it’s your first move. To learn how to start preparing to move, read our guide on moving to a new city.
