Oppo K9s Official With Snapdragon 778G and 120Hz Screen

After many days of teasing, Oppo has finally officially launched Oppo K9s in China. This is the third phone model of the Oppo K9 series, preceded by the launch of Oppo K9 and Oppo K9 Pro. Interestingly, this phone seems to be a tweaked version of the Realme Q3s that was officially launched yesterday (October 19).

The addition of “s” at the end of the number indicates that the phone has a difference compared to the K9 and K9 Pro which were launched last month, one of which is the Snapdragon 778G chip. Here’s a comparison between them.

The Oppo K9s screen is the wider of the two with a 6.59” screen. Unlike its two siblings, this time the display is an IPS LCD (not AMOLED) with a refresh rate of 120 Hz (matches the Pro) and a touch sampling rate of 240 Hz, 1080p+ resolution, and “Panda Glass” protection. No HDR support here, but it covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space (and 96% NTSC). Panel brightness peaks at 600 nits.

Moving to the LCD panel, it means that it requires the fingerprint reader to move to the side of the phone. The 16MP selfie camera is largely the same as on the Pro, except for a brighter f/2.0 aperture.

There are two configurations available. The first is 6GB RAM (LPDDR4x, 2133 MHz dual-channel) and 128GB storage (UFS 2.2 Gear 4, two lanes), the other option gets 8GB RAM. Note that there is a MicroSD slot for more storage and up to 5GB of virtual RAM.

Meanwhile, the rear camera is basically the same as before. Starting with a 64MP main camera with a 26mm f/1.7 lens. This one can shoot a 4K video at 30 fps (with electronic stabilization). Next up is the 120º ultra-wide-angle camera and, lastly, the 2MP macro camera.

The larger screen on the K9s also helps Oppo mount a larger, 5000mAh battery (up from 4500mAh on the Pro). It doesn’t charge as fast as the previous model, but at 30W it’s definitely not slow. A 1-100% charge takes 59 minutes.

Charging is done via the USB-C 2.0 port, there’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack next to it. Wireless connectivity includes 5G and Wi-Fi 6, plus Bluetooth 5.2 (with aptX HD, LDAC, and LHDC codecs). In the software sector, the phone runs Color OS 11.2 based on Android 11.

Last but not least, Oppo K9s has dimensions of 164.43 x 75.88 x 8.52 mm, weighs 199 grams, and has three color options including Obsidian Warrior (Black), Neon Silver Sea (Silver), Magic Purple Quicksand (Violet).

Consumers in China can already order the Oppo K9s at a price of 1499 yuan (about $234) for the 6/128GB configuration. The 8/128GB model costs 1699 yuan (around $265). The retail package includes a charger, cable, and protective box. The device will go on sale from November 1 in China, but it is not clear when it will be launched in the international market.
