Philip Morris International (PMI) has launched the IQOS ILUMA i PRIME Skylens Airport Exclusive Edition, a limited-edition heated tobacco device that debuted at Japan’s Narita International Airport and is now expanding to travel retail markets in 13 countries. Check out our full IQOS ILUMA i PRIME guide.
The launch was reported by global travel retail publication The Moodie Davitt Report on August 18, 2026. According to the report, Skylens is PMI’s first device specifically developed for the airport travel retail channel. Read our guide to IQOS travel retail editions.
The Moodie Davitt Report also highlighted the launch through its official LinkedIn account, describing Skylens as a limited-edition product inspired by the “world of flight.” The publication again identified it as PMI’s first device created specifically for airport travel retail. Promotional activities include dedicated duty-free retail displays and marketing campaigns designed around airports and the travel experience.
Skylens is not a new IQOS hardware platform. Instead, it is a channel-specific edition based on the existing IQOS ILUMA i PRIME. The product combines a limited-edition appearance with airport-exclusive distribution and travel-focused experiences, creating a different positioning from conventional color or regional editions. Metallic Blue Design Based on the ILUMA i PRIME Platform
The IQOS ILUMA i PRIME Skylens takes inspiration from air travel and the “world of flight” concept, with both the main device and Holder finished in a metallic blue color.

From a hardware perspective, Skylens retains the Pocket Charger and Holder configuration used by the IQOS ILUMA i PRIME. It also continues to use PMI’s SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM.
Features including Touch Screen, Pause Mode, FlexPuff, and FlexBattery are part of the existing ILUMA i PRIME platform rather than technologies newly introduced with Skylens.

Narita Airport Debut Focuses on the Travel Experience
Skylens made its first appearance at Narita International Airport in Japan.
PMI worked with NAA Retailing to establish a dedicated pop-up experience area near the IQOS Boutique in Terminal 2. The space was designed around the “above the clouds” theme, incorporating aviation-inspired elements into the product presentation.
The activation also included augmented reality (AR) interactions, a dedicated rest area and one-to-one product demonstrations from brand representatives.
The words “Airport Exclusive” were incorporated directly into the display, reinforcing the connection between Skylens and the airport retail channel.

This makes the launch more than simply adding another limited-edition color to a duty-free store. The product design, distribution strategy and consumer experience have all been structured around the airport and travel environment.
Skylens Expands From Japan to 13 Travel Retail Markets
After its debut at Narita International Airport, Skylens expanded into selected airport duty-free and travel retail channels in additional countries.
The markets disclosed so far include:
- Germany
- Italy
- Spain
- Greece
- Switzerland
- Serbia
- South Korea
- Malaysia
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- Lebanon
- Egypt
- Morocco
This gives Skylens a distribution strategy that differs from a conventional nationwide retail launch. Instead of entering each market through standard domestic retail channels, the product is being distributed primarily through airport and travel retail networks.
No single global retail price for Skylens has been publicly disclosed. Actual pricing may therefore vary depending on the airport, country and individual duty-free operator.
PMI’s First Device Specifically Created for Airport Travel Retail
PMI Global Travel Retail Vice President Beste Ermaner said Skylens is PMI’s first device specifically designed for airport travel retail.
This positioning distinguishes the product from a conventional limited-color edition.

Skylens is built around a travel-oriented design concept, while its distribution is directly connected to airport retail. PMI is also using dedicated pop-up spaces and duty-free promotional activities to strengthen the product’s airport-specific identity.
For PMI, this approach turns airport travel retail into more than a traditional sales channel. Airports can also serve as locations for exclusive product launches, limited-edition SKUs, product discovery and experiential marketing.
What Skylens Means for PMI’s Travel Retail Strategy
The main change introduced by Skylens is not a new heating technology but the way the product is connected to its distribution channel.
Building an airport-exclusive edition on an established hardware platform allows PMI to create product differentiation through design, limited availability and travel-oriented branding without developing an entirely new device platform.

The decision to launch Skylens at Narita before expanding into 13 travel retail markets also suggests that PMI sees airports as increasingly important touchpoints for product launches, exclusive editions and consumer experiences.
Instead of using duty-free retail merely as an additional sales channel for existing IQOS products, the Skylens strategy repositions airports as a dedicated space for limited-edition products, immersive brand experiences, and engagement with international travelers. For the IQOS ILUMA i PRIME platform, Skylens is therefore a channel-focused strategy rather than a significant hardware upgrade.
