Igeekphone News, June 3rd: Technology media 9to5Google published a blog post yesterday (June 2nd), reporting that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 foldable phone has appeared in the database of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). It shows that it has obtained Qi 2.1.0 certification and has become the first foldable phone of Samsung to support the “Qi2 Ready” standard.
The WPC certification page shows that the model of this machine is SM-D637U. Igeekphone quoted a blog post as saying that Samsung usually does not use the SM-Dxxx series as the mobile phone model, but in the past, it used the SM-D617D to hide the real model (SM-F946B) of the Galaxy Z Fold5. Therefore, the SM-D637U is very likely the carrier-locked version of the Galaxy Z Fold7 in the United States (SM-F967U).
Relevant documents show that this device has passed the Qi 2.1.0 certification and has become the first foldable phone of Samsung to support the “Qi2 Ready” standard. To achieve the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) function, users need to pair it with a phone case with built-in magnets.
Igeekphone Note: Qi2 Ready is a variant of the Qi2 standard. It does not require the phone body to have built-in alignment magnets. Instead, it relies on the phone case with built-in magnets to achieve precise alignment charging. The maximum wireless charging power of this technology is 15W.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is expected to be equipped with a 4400mAh battery and support 25W wired fast charging, which is consistent with the previous generation Galaxy Z Fold6. Although Samsung is developing a faster wireless charging technology, it has not yet been applied to any Galaxy series mobile phones.
Furthermore, Samsung is participating in the development of the Qi 2.2 standard. Its latest wireless charging chip, S2MIW06, supports a wireless fast charging speed of up to 50W.
