I first encountered Zhiyun LED photography lighting when I tested the outstanding Fiveray FR100C. Recently, I had the opportunity to assess the Molus X100, designed for professionals, and I adore it. Its brightness is unparalleled, given its power and the integrated battery pack adds to its remarkable convenience. The Zhiyun Molus G60 is more affordable than the Molus X100, offering a lower power output of 60W and no optional battery pack. Though undeniably a fantastic light, it falls short compared to the brilliance of the Molus X100.
As with my previous reviews, I want to emphasize that I am not a professional photographer, nor do I consider myself an excellent amateur. However, as someone who takes product photos, I understand the significance of proper lighting.

Design and Build
The Molus G60 distinguishes itself with a unique cube-shaped design, embracing the same vented configuration found in its counterparts to optimize airflow and mitigate heat buildup, ensuring excellent and efficient performance.
Initially, I thought the light solely relied on DC power, but to my delight, I stumbled upon a lifesaving USB-C port thoughtfully integrated on its side. The presence of this USB-C port raised a perplexing question: with such convenient technology available, why would the light still require a DC port?
Interestingly, despite its 60W capacity, the USB-C port is a powerhouse, supporting up to 100W. However, if used with lower-powered power delivery plugs, you may need to operate the light at a slightly reduced brightness level. To put it to the test, I utilized the YOJOCK J7-C USB-C Tester and observed a power draw hovering around 67W. There was a slight surge to approximately 75W as I tweaked the color temperature, but it eventually settled back down.
The back of the light boasts an array of controls, empowering users to digitally fine-tune the brightness and color temperature, spanning an impressive range from 2700K to 6500K. The exact setting is displayed on the LCD screen, an advantageous feature absent in the Fiveray M40.
Zhiyun ingeniously incorporates its DynaVort cooling system within the Molus G60 to maintain optimal performance and prevent overheating. The system employs a gyroscope-modeled heat sink and a FOC fan, ensuring the light operates consistently without flickering or requiring cool-down periods. However, some minimal fan noise is evident.
The mounting mechanism is highly versatile and practical, as the light features a connected arm at its base, granting a wide range of movement possibilities. This flexibility enables the light to be oriented vertically upwards or at a gentle decline angle, catering to various lighting needs. Additionally, the arm is equipped with a 1/4-inch screw hole, offering even more possibilities for creative setups and mounting options.

Regarding versatility, the G60’s ZY mount, designed by Zhiyun, allows easy integration with Bowens light modifiers. This intelligent engineering choice expands the creative possibilities for photographers, videographers, and artists, providing them with the flexibility they need to realize their artistic visions.
The practical and user-friendly design of the G60 is evident through the inclusion of a convenient LCD screen at the back of the unit. This screen provides quick access to essential settings and monitoring options, streamlining the fine-tuning of the lighting setup to perfection.
Even more excitingly, Zhiyun is constantly striving for improvement and understands the evolving needs of its user base. The promise of a forthcoming Bluetooth app to control and customize the G60 indicates its commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation. This addition will elevate the G60’s usability and extend its creative potential.
Performance
However, as I set it up in my tiny studio, I encountered a minor hiccup. The total brightness of the G60 was a bit overwhelming for my setup.
To address this, I experimented with the reflector, which gave the light a unique directional quality. Depending on the purpose, it could be flattering, but I noticed some harsh shadows casting over my product shots and even on my model. Thankfully, the G60 has various light shaping tools, including an optional softbox they sent me. Using the softbox effectively diffused the light, resulting in a more pleasing and even lighting effect.
The G60’s versatility didn’t stop there. I also opted for the Bowens mount adapter with an umbrella hole, allowing me to utilize my existing light modifiers. This added even more flexibility to my lighting setup, making the G60 suitable for various creative scenarios.
2700K to 6500K
Another feature of the G60 is its flexible color temperature range, which spans from 2700K to 6500K. This ensures I can achieve a natural-looking light that adapts seamlessly throughout the day. The light’s color accuracy is also remarkable, boasting a ≥95 CRI rating and producing test footage without any discernible color cast – an awe-inspiring performance.
Zhiyun ZY Vega app
The Zhiyun ZY Vega app proved to be a valuable tool in my lighting setup. Though it may be considered essential, it’s user-friendly and straightforward. The app had instant Bluetooth connectivity with the G60 on my Android device, allowing for effortless wireless firmware updates and convenient lighting control through the brightness slider. Grouping and controlling lights individually through the app added an extra layer of convenience to my overall experience.
The MOLUS G60 is a powerful, versatile lighting solution that enhanced my creative process. Despite the initial issue with overwhelming brightness, the additional light-shaping tools and software capabilities made it a top-notch choice for my content creation needs. Its flexibility, natural-looking glow, and excellent color accuracy have made it valuable in my tiny studio setup.
