Lenovo Z5 Vs Nokia X6 Camera Review: Mid-Range Duel With Android Oreo

They are two smartphones with Google’s Android Oreo platform, focused on the mid-range segment. On one side we have the Lenovo Z5 and the other the Nokia X6 from HMD Global. Which one will be the best investment for a consumer … curious? Both terminals use Google’s Android Oreo operating system, although they have a radically different approach. In the case of Nokia X6, we have a very simple approach, reaching most markets with Android stock through the Android One program.

Both terminals began to be acclaimed as top-of-the-range devices and later each disillusioned us in their own way. In the case of the Nokia X6, this feeling of disappointment was very fleeting. Already the Lenovo Z5 has become the anecdote of the year.

    Design

Here the Nokia X6 is the clear winner although this is a highly subjective issue. That is, although I consider it extremely elegant, you may disagree with 100% of my opinion. After all, this one Nokia X6 shares the lines of the iPhone X from Apple, including (of course) a notch at the top of your screen with the format 18: 9.

With a solid metal structure and an elegant glass construction. The new Nokia X6 mirrors ruggedness and elegance in one terminal. Google’s Android Oreo platform is perhaps one of the smartest smartphones of this brand, the 5th largest manufacturer in Europe.

Not that the Lenovo Z5 is an ugly smartphone but can not be considered original. Using the same approach with a notch, as the Nokia X6, all its look is inspired by other terminals in the market.

Glass and metal on both Android smartphones

Inheriting ASUS ZenFone 5 lines and stealing the Twilight colors of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, what’s so original about their looks? Be that as it may, from this amalgam of inspirations was born a contemporary terminal with all the features sought today.

If you prefer this finish with a gradient between pink and blue or purple then the new Lenovo Z5 may be the ideal solution. Similarly, with a black or bright blue rear, the terminal gives without a doubt in the sights, not going unnoticed.

Something that deserves to be stressed is the fact that both Android terminals have a high use of the screen. In fact, both have an 18: 9 screen with a tall, narrow aspect, easy to use with one hand.

    Screen

Here is Lenovo Z5 who wins (if you like a big screen). In fact, it manages to surpass in size the screen of Nokia X6. However, both smartphones with Google’s Android Oreo platform use a display with Full-HD + resolution. Both with the above-mentioned 18: 9 format.

In short, the choice will depend on the screen size you prefer. In either case, either with the terminal of the Chinese manufacturer or the Finnish manufacturer, you will have a high and narrow screen.

    Hardware

In this department, it becomes difficult to find significant differences between both terminals. Note that both the Lenovo Z5 as the Nokia X6 has the processor Snapdragon 636 from Qualcomm. It is an effects processor with a maximum processing frequency of 1.8GHz with a total of 6GB of RAM. They also feature a total of 128GB of internal storage.

Here only the Nokia X6 has a base version of 4GB of RAM. Nevertheless, we believe that this is the smartphone with the best performance due to the UI (interface) used. It should be noted that ZUK UI or ZUI 3.9, although based on Google’s Android Oreo, is notoriously heavier than the Nokia interface. As a rule, it uses the Android system in its stock version.

    Software

Depending on the type of consumer, preference may lie with the Lenovo interface, the ZUI, or the Nokia interface. The latter being very close to the concept of pure Android or stock.

    Camera Specs

At the camera level, we can only compare the hardware used by each of these Android manufacturers. At the moment we do not have any of the smartphones on hand to be able to gauge their photographic potential. Still, in the Lenovo Z5, we have a 16MP main camera with an auxiliary 8MP resolution sensor. We do not know the focal aperture of these cameras anymore. On the front side, we have an 8MP resolution camera.

Already in the new Nokia X6, we also have a dual configuration on the rear with 16MP on the main sensor and 5MP on the secondary sensor. The apertures are f / 2.0 and f / 2.2 on their rear, also counting on the Bothie mode that combines both chambers.

Already on the front, this terminal with Google’s Android Oreo platform presents us with a 16MP camera. It features an f / 2x focal aperture for all your selfies and self-portraits.

Here check the Camera samples of both Smartphones

The following left is Nokia X6 sample, and the right is Lenovo Z5 sample

In the daytime environment, Nokia X6 and Lenovo Z5 did a good job in color reproduction. In this set of proofs, X6 used a radical exposure to obtain higher picture brightness, but it also made the sky overexposed and completely whitened. Although the Lenovo Z5 was slightly inferior in resolution, the blue sky was very natural.

This set of samples shows that the focus of the Lenovo Z5 in the automatic mode was selected more accurately, the outline of the petals of the main body of the screen was clear, and the Nokia X6 focused attention on the background building, thus losing the details of many petals.

The samples of Nokia X6 are bright and good in the daytime environment. However, the exposure is too high, the probability of white balance is unstable, and the picture tends to be yellowish. The fierce competition in the mid-range smartphone market has made a qualitative leap in the imaging of this price point camera.

In fact, the mid-range phones have rarely had the problem of unstable white balance. The performance of the Nokia X6 is somewhat backward. In contrast, the relatively conservative exposure control of the Lenovo Z5 made the screen brightness lower, but the film output was stable and there was no major problem.

In the indoor environment, the X6 and Lenovo Z5 have very different color performances. The X6 saturation is easily too low, the scenery is light, the Lenovo Z5 saturation is too high, and the colors are too thick.

In this set of samples, the Lenovo Z5 still loses the brightness of the screen (the same features are not mentioned below), but the suppression of the highlights is relatively ideal, retaining more details of shop signs.

Watermarking is not available for the Nokia X6 bokeh mode

In the macro scene, Lenovo Z5 can extract more depth of field information, and the effect of background blur is better. The outline of the anime character is clear, and the Nokia X6’s sartorial effect is far from satisfactory.

In the high-contrast scene, the Nokia X6 can show a large dynamic range, with bright and dark parts having a good look and feel, and the Lenovo Z5 tolerance is slightly inferior.

To the night scene that best reflects the strength of the camera, we still adhere to the principle of “see if you can get it first, and see if you can shoot it clearly” for a mid-range camera. Under this premise, the Lenovo Z5 almost dominated the entire game.

In this group of samples, the gap between the two is very obvious. The brightness of the screen is completely reversed with the daytime. The dark shadows occupy the main screen of the Nokia X6, which neither clearly distinguishes the sky, trees, and building boundaries, nor does it reveal the texture of the floor. The Lenovo Z5 did it without the Nokia X6.

In this set of samples, Lenovo Z5 and Nokia X6 were not very good at suppressing the highlights, but the former performed slightly better. The “Dunaway Square” words on the front door were clearly visible, and the Nokia X6 was rather obscure.

Of course, the nighttime performance of the Nokia X6 is not without merit. Compared with the glass windows of this group of photos, it can be seen that the dark part of the Nokia X6 is better than the Lenovo Z5.

In a word, the night performances of Nokia X6 and Lenovo Z5 are summarized: The middle view opens on the 5th and the distant view opens on the 3rd.

    The battery

The new Lenovo Z5 has the highest capacity battery of both. Here with 3300mAh capacity, also has the largest screen to feed. Still, we expect it to have the better battery life of the two. On the other hand, the new Nokia X6 presents us with a battery with 3060mAh of capacity. That said, at least on paper, the Lenovo Z5 may prove to be the winner.

Finally, the price of both is extremely competitive, for China ie. Note that here the Lenovo Z5 will cost the equivalent of $202 with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the Nokia X6 costs the equivalent of $ 204 in China. However, here with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Its top version costs the equivalent of $266.
