DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom Review: Drones with Super Cameras, Now Sale in Geekbuying at Lowest Prices (+Coupon)

The Mavic 2 is DJI’s ultimate gift to the world of aerial photography and comes in two editions: Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom.

The DJI Mavic 2 Pro shoots stunning, extremely detailed aerial photos. Designed by Hasselblad in collaboration with DJI, the new L1D-20C camera houses an adjustable-aperture lens for more control over your lighting environment. The DJI Mavic 2 Zoom sports a 2x optical zoom lens so you can get creative and capture everything from wide-angle to mid-range shots.

    Design

The new Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom versions have the exact same body. The only difference is in the camera/gimbal. The new drone looks very similar to the original Mavic Pro but feels more solid and slightly more rounded and aerodynamic. According to DJI, they were able to reduce body drag by 19% with the new design, resulting in a higher top speed of 44 mph (or 72 km/h) in Sports mode. The folding mechanism of the Mavic 2 is in principle the same as with the original but feels a lot more robust. The battery has increased both in size and capacity, allowing the new Mavic to stay in the air for up to 31 minutes versus 27 for the original Mavic Pro and 30 for the Platinum Edition. With DJI’s new OcuSync 2.0 you are able to fly the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom to up to 5 miles (or 8 kilometers) away with a live video feed of 1080p.

An improvement both in quality and distance compared to the original Mavic Pro, albeit at the expense of a slight weight increase as both models weigh a little over 900 grams. The drones now also include 8GB of internal storage and a micro-SD card slot. So even when you forget your memory card, you are still covered. The LED lights have been redesigned and relocated to the end of the legs for the rear two lights. They have also added a Bottom Auxiliary Light that turns on automatically to ensure safe and precise landings in low-light situations. Lastly, both models come with the quiet propellers making this the least intrusive DJI drone ever.

Features of DJI Mavic 2 Pro

The brand new DJI Mavic 2 Pro Drone builds on its predecessor’s success by incorporating a larger 1″ sensor, 6-direction obstacle sense, a variable aperture, and adding more features. The new 20MP 1-inch sensor from the Hasselblad L1D-20c camera on the DJI Mavic 2 Pro is about 4 times larger than the first generation Mavic, therefore providing better dynamic range, improved low light, and so much more. The new 6-direction obstacle sense will immensely improve flight security by sensing and stopping for obstacles up, down, left, right, and forward of the drone (left/right only available in active track and tripod mode). Also, new to the Mavic 4K drone range is a variable aperture of f/2.8 to f/11; this seemingly small feature has a massive effect when shooting in bright conditions, removing the need to to use ND filters for most outdoor shooting. Other improvements include 10-bit color log recording, 100Mbps video bitrate, 1080p Full HD recording at 120fps, 31 minute flight time, top speed of 72 km/h, 8km 1080p live view range with lower latency, 1/8000th Sec shutter, and H.265 HEVC/MPEG-H video format recording.

Features of DJI Mavic 2 Zoom

The latest DJI Mavic 2 Zoom is one of the smallest 4K camera drones available now with a 24-48mm optical zoom lens and a maximum f/2.8 aperture. With a compact folded size weighing only 905g, it’s easy to transport and will comfortably fit in a small shoulder bag. With the extra weight of the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, comes more benefits that includes powerful technology such as the a 3-axis gimbal, shoots 4K UHD at 30 fps from a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, ISO that ranges from 100-3200 for both stills and video and a maximum shutter speed at 1/8000, low-noise flight technology, it even includes an autonomous tracking and improved obstacle avoidance system with obstacle sensors on all sides of the aircraft to avoid collisions while automatically following you. Top features include 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, 4K 30p video recording, 3-axis gimbal providing smooth, stable footage, foldable propeller arms, 8km transmission range, autonomous tracking and obstacle avoidance, Hybrid Autofocus for quick and accurate focus, a flight time of up to 31 minutes, and the brand new Hyperlapse function.

    Conclusion

They may both be based on the same design and shoot 4K at 100Mbps, but there are big differences between the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom’s cameras and sensors. both drones apparently have an improved flight time of 31 minutes, which trumps the battery life of the Mavic Air and Parrot Anafi.
