With the Nokia 106, HMD Global has introduced a redesigned feature phone that has a physical keypad. However, the gadget does not work without any special features. It also has a battery life that is significantly longer than current smartphones.
The screen, which has a resolution of 160×120 pixels, is not a touchscreen. The operation is done with physical buttons. The Nokia 106 includes a MediaTek 6261D-soc with unknown specifications, 4MB ram, and 4MB storage space. There is room for up to two thousand contacts and up to five hundred text messages.
The device weighs 70.2 grams and has an 800mAh battery, which needs to be charged via micro-USB. According to HMD, the battery accounts for 15.7 hours of talk time or 21 days of standby time. The Nokia 106 only supports 2g networks.
Furthermore, the phone has an FM radio and Snake is installed. Other games Nitro Racing, Danger Dash and Tetris are available for a fee. According to the HMD press release, the phone comes out at a price of $18. Whether the device also appears in the Benelux for that price is not yet clear. The feature phone is apparently only in the color dark gray in the trade.
A Nokia 106 already existed with largely comparable specifications. That was a device that Microsoft released in 2014. Two years later, the Nokia brand name and the department that makes feature phones was taken over by the new Finnish company HMD.
