I was searching some time now for a mini pc that could change my old Lenovo laptop with a i3-2350M clocked at 2.3GHz that I have. OK, the laptop is good, at least was before some years. Specially now with Windows 10, despite the fact I had installed 8GB of RAM and a lot of space, the laptop was tooooo slow! So I was looking for something really good and small at the same time, that could replace my old laptop and have it for a long time. My search ended at Geekbuying, where I found Vorke V2 Pro! I have chosen Vorke V2 Pro for two reasons, one was the Intel Kaby Lake R i7-8550U, with 8GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB NVME SSD and the second was the very low price I paid!
I ordered my Vorke V2 Pro from the Italian warehouse of Geekbuying Monday morning and on Wednesday, the employee from DHL was ringing my bell to deliver it to me! Of course there where no customs for me to pay, since my ordered came from Italy! Opening the package from DHL, the box I found was very simple and it contained the Vorke V2 Pro, a manual in English, a base to place the Vorke at the back of your monitor and some screws.
The dimensions of the Vorke V2 Pro are really small, as they are 39 x 129 x 124 mm. For connectivity, the V2 Pro features:
- 2 x USB 3.0
- 2 x USB 2.0
- 1x Type-C
- 1 x slot for earphones and mic at the front
- 1 x HDMI ™(1.4b)
- 1 x RJ45
- 1 x DC-In
- 1 x Kensington lock slot
Internal, the Vorke V2 Pro has :
- 1 x M.2 NVME SSD 2280 slot (Optional 128GB/256GB of flash storage)
- 1 x M.2 PCIe 2230 Key-E slot occupied by the Wi-Fi+BT card
- 1 x 2.5 in SATA 6.0 Gb/s (7.0 / 9.5 mm thick)
The Vorke V2 Pro I bought from Geekbuying, came not with Windows, but with Ubuntu 16. For the people that know, Ubuntu is a much better OS from Windows, more stable and as they have made it now, is like working with Windows.
Unfortunately I’m too used to Windows, so I had to delete them and put Windows 10 Pro, original of course, using the ISO from Microsoft itself!
You will notice that Vorke V2 Pro is not connected at that time with my monitor, but with my TV. This happen because Vorke V2 Pro connects only via HDMI, so I needed to buy a new cable from Aliexpress to use my monitor with my mini pc.
As I have mentioned and above, the specs of the Vorke V2 Pro are :
- OS: Ubuntu 16.04 pre-installed; Supports WIN 8.1 64bit;WIN 10 64bit
- CPU: Intel 8th Gen Core i7-8550U 1.80GHz / 4.00GHz
- GPU: Intel® UHD Graphics 620
- RAM: 8GB DDR4 2400 Mhz, upgradeable to 16GB
- ROM: 256GB M.2 NVME SSD
which where recognized from the installed Windows 10 Pro without any problem. Just to mention, for Windows 10 Pro I used as I said the ISO from Microsoft and bought original keys from here.
To show you and how easy is to install Windows 10 Pro in the Vorke V2 Pro, all you have to do are the following:
- Find a USB stick with a capacity of 8GB and make format to it as NTFS
- Go over to the Windows 10 page at Microsoft and download Windows 10.
In order to do so, you press on the button “Download tool now”.
and you follow the options as they appear… (you see them here in Greek, as I cannot display them in a different language, so follow the options)
and in the end you download the ISO file at your computer.
- After you have downloaded Windows ISO, you will have to download the freeware program Rufus. Rufus will format and copy the ISO at your USB stick in a way that will become also bootable.
Προσέξτε καλά τις επιλογές στην φωτογραφία, για να το καταφέρετε και εσείς χωρίς πρόβλημα. Αφού τελειώσει την διαδικασία το Rufus, είστε έτοιμοι να περάσετε τα Windows 10 Pro στο Vorke V2 Pro.
Just insert the USB stick in any of the USB slots that are on the back and boot Vorke V2 Pro. After pressing the power button, press F2 at your keyboard. You will notice that a menu appears. This menu show with which order the devices boot. Of course you will choose your USB stick. If you press F10 instead, you will enter the BIOS setting menu. Enter in the Windows 10 Pro installation menu environment, delete all partitions, make new where you will install your Windows 10 and you will be ready in no time!
