Saving Facebook videos to your pc or mobile phone

Have you come across a video you liked so much on Facebook that you’d like to save it on your computer or phone. Maybe you want to edit the video clip and republish it on another social media platform? Maybe you just want to be able to watch the video offline.  Whatever the case today we will show you how to save it to your computer.

Facebook has evolved a lot since it was first launched back in 2004. Nowadays people just aren’t posting text and images on Facebook. Now a major part of Facebook is watching videos. Currently, Facebook is raking up over 8 billion daily views to its videos. That’s nearly one video view by every person in the world every day.

Unfortunately downloading Facebook videos directly from within the app or browser isn’t natively possible. Thankfully, after a bit of research and some trial and error, I was able to find a few methods that worked well for saving Facebook videos. By following the steps laid out below you too can save Facebook videos to your computer, tablet or phone. Let’s get started.

    Saving your own Facebook videos:

I kind of lied when in the opening paragraph of the article. There is a way to download videos from the Facebook website but it only works for videos that you’ve published. I used this method to download some old clips that I posted a decade ago that I no longer had on my hard drive.

Tip: If you’ve been looking for a way to get more Instagram followers then make sure to check out our article on influencer marketing.

Head over to your profile page and click the video button located at the top of the profile page under the “mode” dropdown. This will take you to Facebook’s video module which will display all the videos that you’ve published to date.

Once you find the video that you want to save, place your mouse cursor over it and wait for a small pencil icon to appear. Clicking on the icon will display a menu with two download options, Download SD and download HD. Click on either the standard definition or the high definition download button to save the video as an MP4 to your computer. The HD link will be better quality than the SD link. Follow the same process for all the videos that you want to save.

    Saving videos that aren’t yours:

So you’ve learned how to save videos that you’ve published. But what if the video you want to download isn’t one that you’ve published? Don’t fret I have the solution for you. You’ll be using a free third-party web app that will allow you to save other people’s videos.

Tip: Trying to stand out on social media? Try making your profile unique with a cool font from Fancyfonts.co.

First head over to Facebook and find the video or video that you want to save for offline use.

Right-click on the video and hit “show video URL”. Which will display the direct link to the video. Copy the link by highlighting it and right-clicking and select copy.

Head over to the Facebook downloader website and paste the link you copied in the previous step into the box on the homepage titled “paste Facebook URL to begin” and click the blue download button titled “Go”.

The page will refresh and you will be presented with two download options, standard definition, and high definition. Click on the video version that you want and the download will start. The video will be downloaded in MP4 format.

Repeat the process to download any other videos that you want.

Unfortunately, this method doesn’t work for downloading private Facebook videos. To do that you’ll have to visit the private downloader located on the same website which requires you to copy and paste the page source code into a text box. I’m not particularly fond of this approach but it does work.

    Conclusion

And there you have it. Two methods for downloading videos off Facebook. The ladder method works on all devices and for videos that aren’t your own. The first method is more elegant but only works on your own videos. Give both options a shot and let us know what you think by commenting below.
