Huawei seems eager to stay at the top of DxOMark’s ranking of the best smartphone cameras and, therefore, may be thinking of introducing a traditional zoom. A recent patent application from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) shows a smartphone with a rear camera that features a zoom module.
This patent not yet seen reveals the possible design of such a device. At first glance, you’re sure to notice the really sleek, dark rear body design with rounded edges, as well as the distinctly raised rear camera, probably with three independent sensors.
One of the sensors is located in the right conspicuous circle, which serves as a retractable or interchangeable lens. The underside of the device further reveals only the presence of the classic USB Type-C connector, while the volume control buttons and the power button are clearly located on the side.
Huawei is not the first smartphone manufacturer to consider using such technology. Motorola has already come up with a similar technology with Moto Z models, which allow the connection of additional modules, so-called Moto Mods.
Among the individual modules, there is also a special module from Hasselblad, which is equipped with a state-of-the-art sensor and a lens with a 10x optical zoom. However, the historically well-known smartphone manufacturer did not get too much water with this model and the module itself.
