The Chinese manufacturer nubia presented on Thursday (4) its new line of smartphones aimed at the gamer audience, with the launch of the new Red Magic 6 and 6 Pro. For this new version of smartphones, nubia had a partnership with the Chinese developer Tencent Games, one of the best known in the Chinese market (and also worldwide), being responsible for games like PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile. The models arrive with several new visuals and configurations for the target audience to feel even more attracted.
The company calls the design of the RedMagic 6 as Mecha Sci-Fi. It has a carbon fiber texture all over its rear panel and asymmetrical lighting to match the gaming theme. It has the RedMagic and Tencent logo out of which the first one lights up.
It is available in two colors- Carbon Fiber Black and Cyber Neon(Blue and Purple Gradient design). The difference here is that the Pro variant has a combo of Aviation grade Aluminum alloy and glass. The RedMagic 6 Pro comes in Iron Black and Ice Blade Silver colors.
Speaking of the specifications of the two devices, both have practically the same configurations, however, the Pro version brings slight changes in matters of memory and battery. The highlight of this line goes to the smartphone screen, which has a 6.8-inch AMOLED display, with a refresh rate of 165 Hz and Full HD + resolution (1080 x 2400 pixels).
This screen, which now becomes the fastest available on the market, still has an adaptive update rate, which means that when the screen is not showing dynamic content, it automatically reduces the rate to 30 Hz, and can rise to 120 Hz in menus or applications and up to 165 Hz in games compatible with this refresh rate. In addition, it offers a touch response rate of up to 500 Hz and 10-bit color support.
Under the hood of the Red Magic 6, we have the Snapdragon 888, currently the best chip available from Qualcomm, in addition to RAM memories of the LPDDR5 type, which can reach 16GB in the Pro version, in addition to the fast storage of the UFS 3.1 type, with 128GB and 256GB versions. If these amounts of memory and storage are still not enough, Pro Transparent Edition features versions with an impressive 18GB of RAM and 512GB of internal space.
Another striking aspect of this new line is its active cooling system, where the devices have a fan that rotates up to 18,000 RPM in the basic version and 20,000 RPM in the Pro, helping to keep the Snapdragon 888 with controlled temperatures in more demanding games.
The battery of the Red Magic 6 is 5050mAh, supporting 65W fast charging, which fully charges the device in 38 minutes. The Pro version reduces the capacity to 4500mAh but offers a 120W charge, which can deliver 50% of the smartphone’s charge in just 5 minutes.
Despite not being the focus of the smartphone, the set of rear cameras brings three sensors, the main one being 64MP, an ultrawide 8MP, and a macro camera of 2MP, in addition to the front sensor for selfies is 8MP. Finally, Red Magic 6 supports the 5G network, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6, USB-C connector, and the Red Magic OS 4 system, the one based on Android 11.
Pricing and availability
The Red Magic 6 initially arrives on the Chinese market at prices starting at 3799 yuan (about US$ 587) in the 8GB / 128GB version, reaching up to 6599 yuan (US$ 1020), this amount charged in the edition Pro Transparent Edition with 18GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The manufacturer is expected to present the global version of the device on March 16.
As for the availability, pre-orders begin March 4 i.e, today, and run till March 10. The first sale of the Red Magic 6 and 6 Pro will be on March 11 at 10:00 AM Beijing time. Users in China can grab the devices from the nubia website, JD.com, and other major partner stores across the country.
